VNV Nation : Perfect Future 2002

VICTORY   NOT   VENGEANCE

Irish/English duo VNV Nation , originally from Dublin and Essex and now based in Hamburg, Germany , have persistently leaped from strength to strength, over the years, emerging as a powerhouse in the alternative electronic rock and industrial scenes. Their unique sound blends thematic lyrics and emotive vocals with influences from electronic music, indie, rock, dance music, classical and much more.

The music can range from hard-hitting beats to indie-electronic anthems to haunting ballads to symphonic orchestrations. VNV Nation have also earned incredible acclaim for their energetic live shows and gained a fanatical worldwide following.

One of the most frequently asked questions is what the letters VNV stand for. They stand for "Victory not Vengeance". The meaning behind this stylised motto is that one should strive to achieve, not sit in bitter regret .VNV Nation are Ronan Harris (electronics, lyrics, vocals) and Mark Jackson (live drums).

For concerts, Ronan and Mark are joined by two live keyboarders, who vary, depending on the location of the show and availability.

Their 2002 album, Futureperfect, while retaining many industrial elements represented a departure in many ways, largely away from EBM and towards synthpop, even incorporating some elements of trance. Some neoclassical instrumental pieces were included in the album. This shift caused their mainstream popularity to increase still further, but alienated some of their fans who preferred their earlier harsher and darker sound, leading to a somewhat weakened reputation in the "underground" music community.

Nonetheless, they embarked on several highly successful world tours in 2002 and 2003. Notably, the album was produced using mainly software synthesizers instead of hardware synthesizers. It was the first VNV Nation album made entirely with software synthesizers.
