VNV Nation : Perfect Future 2002

VICTORY   NOT   VENGEANCE

Irish/English duo VNV Nation , originally from Dublin and Essex and now based in Hamburg, Germany , have persistently leaped from strength to strength, over the years, emerging as a powerhouse in the alternative electronic rock and industrial scenes. Their unique sound blends thematic lyrics and emotive vocals with influences from electronic music, indie, rock, dance music, classical and much more.

The music can range from hard-hitting beats to indie-electronic anthems to haunting ballads to symphonic orchestrations. VNV Nation have also earned incredible acclaim for their energetic live shows and gained a fanatical worldwide following.

One of the most frequently asked questions is what the letters VNV stand for. They stand for "Victory not Vengeance". The meaning behind this stylised motto is that one should strive to achieve, not sit in bitter regret .VNV Nation are Ronan Harris (electronics, lyrics, vocals) and Mark Jackson (live drums).

For concerts, Ronan and Mark are joined by two live keyboarders, who vary, depending on the location of the show and availability.

Their 2002 album, Futureperfect, while retaining many industrial elements represented a departure in many ways, largely away from EBM and towards synthpop, even incorporating some elements of trance. Some neoclassical instrumental pieces were included in the album. This shift caused their mainstream popularity to increase still further, but alienated some of their fans who preferred their earlier harsher and darker sound, leading to a somewhat weakened reputation in the "underground" music community.

Nonetheless, they embarked on several highly successful world tours in 2002 and 2003. Notably, the album was produced using mainly software synthesizers instead of hardware synthesizers. It was the first VNV Nation album made entirely with software synthesizers.

Jesus Christ Superstar - Studio Album 1970

Jesus Christ Superstar is a 1970 rock opera, whose music was composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber and whose book and lyrics were written by Tim Rice.

The musical started as a rock opera concept recording before its first staging on Broadway in 1971. The musical is loosely based on the Gospels's accounts of the last week of Jesus's life, beginning with the preparation for the arrival of Jesus and his disciples in Jerusalem and ending with the crucifixion.

It highlights political and interpersonal struggles between Judas of Carioth and Jesus, struggles that are not in the Bible narratives. The resurrection is not included. It therefore largely follows the form of a traditional passion play.

The work's depiction offers a free interpretation of the psychology of Jesus and the other characters.

A large part of the plot focuses on the character of Judas, who is depicted as a tragic figure dissatisfied with the direction in which Jesus steers his disciples. Contemporary attitudes and sensibilities, as well as slang, pervade the lyrics, and ironic allusions to modern life are scattered throughout the depiction of political events.

JUDAS  DEATH  Lyrics

My mind is darkness now
My god I am sick
I've been used
And you knew
All the time
God I'll never ever know
Why you chose me for your crime
For your foul bloody crime
You have murdered me!
You have murdered me!

PILATE  Lyrics

Don't let me stop
Your great self-desctruction

Die if you want to
You misguided martyr!
I wash my hands
Of your demolition
Die if you want to
You innocent puppet!

O.S.T : Jesus Christ Superstar 1973

Jesus Christ Superstar is a 1973 British musical film directed by Canadian film director Norman Jewison. A film adaptation of the Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice rock opera of the same name, the film stars Ted Neeley, Carl Anderson, Yvonne Elliman and Barry Dennen.

During the filming of Fiddler on the Roof, Barry Dennen, who played Pilate on the concept album, suggested to Norman Jewison that he should direct Jesus Christ Superstar as a film. After hearing the album, Jewison agreed to do it. The film was shot in Israel (primarily at the ruins of Avdat) and other Middle Eastern locations in 1972. The cast consisted mostly of actors from the Broadway show, with Ted Neeley and Carl Anderson starring as Jesus and Judas respectively. Neeley had played a reporter and a leper in the Broadway version, and understudied the role of Jesus.

The film centers on the conflict between Judas and Jesus during the week before the crucifixion of Jesus. Neeley and Anderson were nominated for two Golden Globe Awards in 1974 for their portrayals of Jesus and Judas, respectively. Although it attracted criticism from some religious groups, reviews for the film were still positive.

Wolinski

The attackers stormed the Paris office of "Charlie Hebdo" calling the journalists who were holding an editorial meeting by name and shouting that their prophet had been avenged, AFP reports citing a police source.
It has now been confirmed by Charlie Hebdo’s lawyer that four of the magazine’s cartoonists were killed in the attack: Cabu, Wolinski, Charb and Tignous.

Twelve people in total including two policemen are confirmed to have been killed in the shooting.

Georges David Wolinski (28 June 1934 – 7 January 2015) was a French cartoonist and comics writer.

Wolinski was killed on 7 January 2015 in a terrorist attack on " Charlie Hebdo " along with other staff.
Charlie Hebdo is a French satirical weekly newspaper, featuring cartoons, reports, polemics, and jokes.

Wolinski was born in Tunis, French Tunisia to Jewish parents, Lola Bembaron and Siegfried Wolinski. His father was from Poland and his mother from Tunisia. After discontinuing his architecture studies in Paris, Georges Wolinski began cartooning in 1960, contributing political and erotic cartoons and comic strips to the satirical monthly " Hara-Kiri ".

During the student revolts of May 1968, Wolinski co-founded the satirical magazine " L'Enragé with Siné ". In the early 1970s, Wolinski collaborated with the comics artist Georges Pichard to create Paulette which appeared in Charlie Mensuel and provoked reactions in France during its publication. Wolinski's work has appeared in the daily newspaper Libération, the weekly Paris-Match, L'Écho des savanes and Charlie Hebdo.

Charb was the most recent editor, holding the post from 2009 until his death in the attack on the magazine's offices in 2015.
