The 13th Floor Elevators: The Psychedelic World Of The 13th Floor Elevators (3 CD Box) 2002

This Box set Contains the group's four original albums in their entireties, plus live recordings and bonus tracks.

Hailing from Austin, Texas, the members of 13th Floor Elevators were quite possibly the first artists to

describe their music as psychedelic. Their lyrics and sleeve notes openly and religiously endorsed the use of drugs (particularly LSD) to alter human consciousness for the better. The band rattled to the middle of the Hot 100 in 1966 with You’re Gonna Miss Me, anchored by Roky Erickson’s unforgettable yelping vocals, Stacy Sutherland’s guitar, and Tommy Hall’s electric jug runs. According to myth, Tommy’s jug was tuned by the amount of marijuana stored in it.

The group pioneered some of the first garage psychedelia on its albums The Psychedelic Sounds of the

13th Floor Elevators 1966, and the followup Easter Everywhere 1967. However, Texas at that time was an extremely conservative area that still hadn’t come to terms with 50’s rock ‘n’ roll. The authorities and the police set out to bust the entire band for pot (and—not surprisingly—succeeded).

The International Artists record label in Houston, also home to contemporary Texas underground

groups such as Red Krayola and Bubble Puppy, signed the Elevators to a record contract and released the album The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators in November 1966, which became popular among the burgeoning counterculture. Tommy Hall's sleeve-notes for the album, which advocated chemical agents (such as LSD) as a gateway to a higher, 'non-Aristotelian' state of consciousness, has also contributed to the album's cult status.

During their California tour, the band shared bills with Quicksilver Messenger Service, the Great

Society (featuring Grace Slick), and Moby Grape. On returning to Texas in early 1967, they released a second single, "Levitation", and continued to play live in Austin, Houston and other Texas cities. In November 1967, the band released a second album, Easter Everywhere. The album featured a cover of Bob Dylan's "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue".

However, shortly before work began on Easter Everywhere, Walton and Leatherman left the band and

were replaced by Danny Thomas on drums and Dan Galindo on bass, because of disputes over mismanagement of the band's career by International Artists and a fundamental disagreement between Walton and Hall over the latter's advocacy of the use of LSD in the pursuit of achieving a higher state of human consciousness.

As a result, they were not credited in the Easter Everywhere sleevenotes, despite having appeared on "(I've Got) Levitation" and "She Lives (In a Time of Her Own)". Despite the lengthy studio work and

resources utilized, Easter Everywhere was not the success the band and International Artists had hoped for. Lacking a hit single and released too late in the year, it sold out its original run, but was never reprinted, suggesting somewhat disappointing sales. Record label paperwork indicate that the band's debut album sold upwards of 40,000 copies during its original run, while Easter Everywhere may have sold around 10,000 copies.

Stacy Sutherland was jailed. To avoid a prison term, Roky pleaded insanity—a misguided ploy that

landed him in Rusk State Hospital for the criminally insane for 3 years. That turn of events spelled the end of the band, although there was a posthumous 1968 LP, Bull of the Woods.

Roky Erickson was released from hospital in 1973 and embarked upon a successful solo career that

resulted in a CBS album produced by Stu Cook from Creedence Clearwater Revival. During the 1980s he struggled with mental illness and withdrew from public life for many years. However, in the 2000s he has re-emerged with one of his late 70s/early 80s backing bands, The Explosives, playing regular gigs including the Austin City Limits festival in September 2005, as well as Coachella in California, the Hultsfred Festival in Sweden and Montreal World Film festival in Canada.

Erickson died in Austin on May 31, 2019. His death was made public through a Facebook post by his brother Mikel, who wrote, "My brother Roky passed away peaceably today. Please allow us time." To date, no cause of death has been announced.

Ding An Sich: The early Years 1987 - 1992

The name Ding An Sich is derived from Immanuel Kant’s “Critique of Pure Reason”. The seeds were

sown in the early 80’s, when Nick Sarikostas (bass) & Makis Floros (drums), inspired by the Punk ethos and influenced by the Post-Punk aesthetics, decided to give their own restlessness, a form of expression by forming a band. After one year of them rehearsing as a duet, they were joined by guitarist John Halikias.

In 1985 the project had to be abandoned, but in 1987, Ding An Sich re-emerged with George Polyzos

on drums. The trio was committed to playing their own music (still instrumental at that point), until they realized that there were enough compositions which “demanded” to become songs. The next recruitment was Panagiotis (Takis) Merekos in 1988, who undertook the task to provide the vocals & lyrics.

In 1989 and just one week before the band was about to enter the studio for the first time, their guitarist

left. But against all odds, his replacement, Dimitris Papalakis, was proven a decisive factor in the evolution of the band’s music. His charismatic albeit unconventional playing and ideas, gave Ding An Sich their own personal sound. This same year the band releases the first 7” single “And…/Wandering” on their own label. Vaggelis Bekonopoulos (keyboards) joined Ding An Sich in 1990, thus enriching their sound.

For the next 3 years the band spent most time in rehearsing & recording. And occasionally making a live appearance, of which the most notable being the ones with Paul Roland (1991) and The Damned (1992).
In 1992 Dimitris Papalakis decided to leave the band and was replaced by Tasos Nomikos (guitarist of the "BrainDead").

Further recordings took place and although there was enough material for the release of 2 albums,

circumstances didn’t allow the materialization of any of these, as the band wanted to act with as much independence as possible.
The year 1993 proved to be a landmark in the band’s history, as it signalled radical changes both in the line-up and expression of musical form.
But this is another story altogether.

Geheimnis Music Productions presents this LP compilation, including almost all material of the band's

studio sessions between 1987 and 1992. George Ginis performed a thorough remastering from the original master tapes at Ammos Music studio. The total production of 355 hand-numbered copies (181 copies on black and 174 copies on transparent violet vinyl) include an insert with photos, credits and lyrics of their one and only 7'' single "And... / Wandering".

New as tomorrow).

Εκείνη την περίοδο έδωσαν πολλές συναυλίες. Οι πιο αξιομνημόνευτες είναι αυτές με τον Paul Roland

και τους The Damned. Το 1996 μετά από αλλαγές στη σύνθεση κυκλοφόρησαν το άλμπουμ The Wanderer & his Shadow. Το 2004 κυκλοφόρησαν το ΕΡ We are involved in a war. Το 2009 συμμετείχαν στην συλλογή Gothic Visions της γερμανικής εταιρίας Echozone. Το 2013 κυκλοφόρησαν το Digital single Kill me with you soft whispered promises.

Joy Division: Heart And Soul (4CD Box 1997) 2009

Joy Division were an English rock band formed in Salford in 1976. The group consisted of vocalist Ian Curtis, guitarist/keyboardist Bernard Sumner, bassist Peter Hook and drummer Stephen Morris.

Sumner and Hook formed the band after attending a Sex Pistols concert. While Joy Division's first

recordings were heavily influenced by early punk, they soon developed a sparse sound and style that made them one of the pioneers of the post-punk movement. Their self-released 1978 debut EP An Ideal for Living drew the attention of the Manchester television personality Tony Wilson, who signed them to his independent label Factory Records. Their debut album Unknown Pleasures, recorded with producer Martin Hannett, was released in 1979.

Curtis suffered from personal problems and health conditions, including a failing marriage, depression,

and epilepsy. As the band's popularity grew, Curtis's condition made it increasingly difficult for him to perform; he occasionally experienced seizures on stage. He died by suicide on the eve of the band's first US/Canada tour in May 1980, aged 23. Joy Division's second and final album, Closer, was released two months later; it and the single "Love Will Tear Us Apart" became their highest charting releases.

Joy Division were scheduled to commence their first US/Canada tour in May 1980. Curtis had

expressed enthusiasm about the tour, but his relationship with his wife, Deborah, was under strain; Deborah was excluded from the band's inner circle, and Curtis was having an affair with Belgian journalist and music promoter Annik Honoré, whom he met on tour in Europe in 1979. He was also anxious about how American audiences would react to his epilepsy.

The evening before the band were due to depart for America, Curtis returned to his Macclesfield home

to talk to Deborah. He asked her to drop an impending divorce suit, and asked her to leave him alone in the house until he caught a train to Manchester the following morning. Early on 18 May 1980, having spent the night watching the Werner Herzog film Stroszek, Curtis hanged himself in his kitchen. Deborah discovered his body later that day when she returned.

The suicide shocked the band and their management. In 2005, Wilson said: "I think all of us made the mistake of not thinking his suicide was going to happen ... We all completely underestimated the

danger. We didn't take it seriously. That's how stupid we were." Music critic Simon Reynolds said Curtis's suicide "made for instant myth". Jon Savage's obituary said that "now no one will remember what his work with Joy Division was like when he was alive; it will be perceived as tragic rather than courageous". In June 1980, Joy Division's single "Love Will Tear Us Apart" was released, which hit number thirteen on the UK Singles Chart. In July 1980, Closer was released, and peaked at number six on the UK Albums Chart. NME reviewer Charles Shaar Murray wrote, "Closer is as magnificent a memorial (for 'Joy Division' as much as for Ian Curtis) as any post-Presley popular musician could have."

The remaining members regrouped under the name New Order. They were successful throughout the next decade, blending post-punk with electronic and dance music influences.

HEART AND SOUL is a box set by English rock band Joy Division containing nearly every track the band recorded between 1977 and 1980. The first two discs contain almost their entire studio output, including the albums Unknown Pleasures and Closer, along with singles and compilation appearances. Discs three and four collect rare demos and live recordings, many of which were previously unreleased. All tracks are digitally remastered. It reached #70 in the UK.

Led by the iconic Ian Curtis, Joy Division remains one of the most influential bands to emerge in the British Post-Punk Scene. In spite of Joy Division’s relatively short existence, their unique sound and distinct iconography have had a lasting impact on music fans and performers alike. This book disassembles the band’s contribution to rock music.

Based on up-to-date original research, Heart And Soul brings together established and newly emerging

scholars who provide detailed examinations the many layers of this multi-faceted and influential band and their singer, the late Ian Curtis, in particular. Given Joy Division’s complexities, the book draws upon a wide range of academic disciplines and approaches in order to make sense of this influential band.

All songs written by Ian Curtis, Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook and Stephen Morris.

NEW DAWN FADES LYRICS

[Verse 1]

A change of speed, a change of style
A change of scene, with no regrets
A chance to watch, admire the distance
Still occupied, though you forget

Different colours, different shades
Over each mistakes were made
I took the blame

Directionless so plain to see
A loaded gun won't set you free
So you say

[Verse 2]
We'll share a drink and step outside
An angry voice and one who cried
We'll give you everything and more
The strain's too much, can't take much more

[Outro]
Oh, I've walked on water, run through fire
Can't seem to feel it anymore
It was me, waiting for me
Hoping for something more
Me, seeing me this time
Hoping for something else

ISOLATION LYRICS

In fear every day, every evening
He calls her aloud from above
Carefully watched for a reason
Painstaking devotion and love

Surrendered to self preservation
From others who care for themselves
A blindness that touches perfection
But hurts just like anything else

Isolation, isolation, isolation

Mother, I tried please believe me
I'm doing the best that I can
I'm ashamed of the things I've been put through
I'm ashamed of the person I am

Isolation, isolation, isolation

But if you could just see the beauty
These things I could never describe
These pleasures a wayward distraction
This is my one lucky prize

Isolation, isolation, isolation
Isolation, isolation
