Dr. Feelgood: Sneakin ' Suspicion 1977

The group's original distinctively British R&B sound was centered on Wilko Johnson's choppy guitar style. Along with Johnson, the original band line-up comprised John B. Sparks (bass guitar), John Martin aka The Big Figure (drummer) and Lee Brilleaux (vocals).

Like many pub rock acts, Dr. Feelgood were known primarily for their high energy live performances, although studio albums such as Down by the Jetty (1974) and Malpractice (1975) were also popular. Their breakthrough 1976 live album, Stupidity, reached number one in the UK Albums Chart (their only chart-topper).[3] But after the follow-up Sneakin' Suspicion, Johnson left the group due to perceived conflicts with Brilleaux. Despite its thriving British success, Dr. Feelgood was unable to find an audience in the United States. One other American album, Sneakin' Suspicion, followed before the band gave up on the States; they never released another record in the U.S.

Sneakin' Suspicion was the fourth album by Dr. Feelgood, and was released in 1977. Wilko Johnson's last album with Dr. Feelgood continued to be dominated by his tough guitar playing, although fewer of his songs are heard. During recording of Sneakin' Suspicion, the band were dealt a potentially fatal blow with the departure of guitarist, co-writer and focal point, Wilko.
The album reached number 10 in the UK Albums Chart in June 1977, and remained in that chart for six weeks. It also spawned their first single to enter the corresponding UK Singles Chart - "Sneakin' Suspicion".

Despite its thriving British success, Dr. Feelgood was unable to find an audience in the United States. After Sneakin' Suspicion they never released another record in the U.S.

TIME AND THE DEVIL

(Wilko Johnson)

Hard time going down
I just hangin' 'round
Sweet thing good love
Thats all I'm thinking of

Time and the devil is gonna bring me everything I need
Well I don't have to worry, oh no
About the love or the money, oh no
Time and the devil is gonna bring it all home to me

No woman no cash
No place to crash
Clock strike midnight
I feel quite alright

Time and the devil is gonna bring me everything I need
Well I don't have to worry, oh no
About the love or the money, oh no
Time and the devil is gonna bring it all home to me

What's this I see
Looking over at me
Just like I said
Got my breakfast brought to the bed

Time and the devil is gonna bring me everything I need
Well I don't have to worry, oh no
About the love or the money, oh no
Time and the devil is gonna bring it all home to me
