Omnibus: Omnibus 1970

Omnibus is a psychedelic/garage rock band from the late '60s formed in New Milford, NJ. Their sound

incorporates raw fuzz guitar with moody east-coast organ, pulsating bass rhythms, and Morrison-esque vocals atop a drug-drenched lyrical and musical frenzy. The songs reflect self-elevation and protest that have not lost poignancy even fifty years later.

New Jersey’s Omnibus formed from the ashes of garage bands from the New Milford area: The

Cliffhangers, The Forerunners and The Vandals. Original members came from these three local bands and consisted of Jay Polt, Al Raimondi, Bob Wegrzyn, Bobby Marcinczack and Jerry Garino.

They soon hit the local scene and got in touch with brothers Steve and Eric Nathanson who would

become their managers and finance their first recordings. A United Artists recording deal was the next step, through wich the band issued their debut 45 “The Man Song” / “It’s All In Your Heart” plus their eponymous LP in 1970.

Omnibus had an amazing psychedelic sound that took all the right elements from West Coast bands like

The Doors or The Jefferson Airplane, Bosstown sound acts like Ultimate Spinach or Chicago hipsters like H.P. Lovecraft to produce their very own Made in Milford, N.J. mixture. Strong, dramatic vocals, tons of fuzz guitar and swirling organs built up their magic sound. For the first time since its original release in 1970, the infamous Omnibus is finally presented officially in high-resolution sound. Climb aboard the Omnibus and take a trip to the center of your mind.

Originally released in 1970, now reissued, this LP by a band from New Jersey had an amazing psychedelic sound. If you like bands like The Doors, The Children, Ultimate Spinach, The Beacon Street Union, Fever Tree or Clear Light you ought to have this one on your collection!

    2. Later there was a problem with GODTHUNDER with a band member. The Synthon Archive had just released the band and the guy wanted compensation. In addition, shortly afterwards he released the cd himself from the master tape.
      A comparison was made.

  2. In Vienna in the late 70's and early 80's there were also a few Greeks who was interested in psychedelia etc....and knew their way around. I don't remember their names anymore. O only know that 3 of the lives in Athen today. One of them has a large record store in Athen that is run by his daughter today. The other was a student with his sister. The sister knew her way around even better than he did.

    1. I'm surprised there's still a large record store in Athens. I thought I knew all of them and now I think they are all closed. But I think Ζαχαρίας is still doing well if that is the store. Not a regular record store but it specializes in used records and rare vinyl.

    2. In Halandri, the place I live in Athens there are two vinyl stores.

    3. Kostas, I forgot to ask you, do you know of any vinyl stores or perhaps other places selling old Greek magazines about music?

    4. You have to go to Monastiraki in the centre of Athens and for the stores that sell old books and magazines. Otherwise take a look at Zacharias Vinyl store. He is also in Monastiraki

  3. I did some research so that nobody believes i might be telling the untruth. The seller of the record store under the name basementgr. and the owner's first name is PANOS. He lived in Vienna from 79-83. En students name was Dimitri.

    1. Josef, I always find your stories fascinating and never thought you might be telling something not true. I am saying that I am surprised that a large record store still survives in Athens as those I remember closed down years ago due to the long period of crisis, Metropolis, Happening, Music Corner, Discophile, a few others I forget right now. Pop Art in Thessaloniki...... There's still a market for vinyl, and Zaharias was doing well with rare vinyls last time I remember.

Now Kostas mentions two vinyl stores in Halandri alone, and I just checked and there are noumerous vinyl stores around Athens. I don't know if I would describe them as large, but I find it surprising that they manage to survive during these times.

Last minute addition: If I got it right, you meant an e-store? That's certainly the way to go these days, as maintaining a physical store is extremely difficult.

  4. By the way in my opinion almost all of the Synthon Archive are very good, up to maybe two or three.
