Various: Songs We Taught The Fuzztones 1993

Fantastically good German import two-disc collection of bands from the last so-many years paying a

full-hearted tribute to garage rock revivalists the Fuzztones. Thoroughly dug the happening Blues Magoo's "Dante's Inferno", the awesome - ? And The Mysterian's "Girl (You Captivate Me)", the always-good-to hear Canada's own The Haunted with both single and lp versions of "1-2-5", The Electras covering The Litter's sole hit "Action Woman", We The People's contribution "You Burn Me Up And Down" and Gonn's minor hit - the catchy "Blackout Of Gretely".

Then, of course there's disc two with the Moving Sidewalk's rocking "99th Floor", the '60's band from

Massachusetts - The Bold's "Gotta Get Some", The Heard covering 13th Floor Elevator's "You're Gonna Miss Me", Human Expression's classic "Love At A Psychedelic Velocity" and the Positively Thirteen O' Clock covering Count Five's "Psychotic Reaction". Let's not forget the three Sonics tunes here - "Cinderella", Strychnine" and "The Witch". plus the off-the-radar Dallas garage band - Kenny And The Kasuals with "Journey In Tyme". Also available on 2-lp vinyl. Duration - 89:32. Highly recommended.

THE FUZZTONES

Founded by singer-guitarist Rudi Protrudi in New York City, the band has gone through several

member changes but is currently active in Europe. Dismissed by some critics and listeners as a "bar band" or unoriginal, they maintained a strong fan base in New York, in Europe (with their music being played on Hungarian State Radio), and in Los Angeles. Rudi Protrudi moved to Los Angeles in 1987, after the breakup of the original band, to organize a new Fuzztones, consisting of Jordan Tarlow (lead guitar), John "Speediejohn" Carlucci (bass guitar), Jason Savall (Vox combo organ), and "Mad" Mike Czekaj (drums). This lineup bears the distinction of being the only 1980's garage rock revival band to

secure a major label record deal, when they signed to RCA.
The group's name is derived from Fuzz Tone, the commercial name of a guitar effect pedal invented in 1962 and whose distinctive sound was popularized in the 1965 hit song "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" by the Rolling Stones.
