Grinderman: Grinderman 2007 + Grinderman 2 2010

Grinderman was an Australian-American rock band that formed in London, England, in 2006.

The band included Nick Cave (vocals, guitar, organ, piano), Warren Ellis (tenor guitar, electric mandolin, violin, viola, guitar, backing vocals), Martyn P. Casey (bass, guitar, backing vocals) and Jim Sclavunos (drums, percussion, backing vocals).

Grinderman came to be when Cave was writing material in 2004 for his acclaimed album Abattoir

Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus. Tired of writing in his office at home and then presenting the material to the Bad Seeds, Cave decided to try a new approach by teaming up with bandmembers Martyn Casey on bass, Warren Ellis on violin and guitar, and Jim Sclavunos on drums and working up songs as a group.

After extensive touring throughout 2005 with The Bad Seeds in support of the band's double album,

Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus, frontman Nick Cave began composing new songs on guitar. He had rarely played the instrument and his rudimentary playing gave the new material a rawer feel than much of The Bad Seeds' output at the time.

With Cave improvising lyrics and playing guitar while his bandmates built melodies around them, the

musicians began veering off into more experimental territory. Whipping up a potent dose of elemental music rooted in blues, punk, and no wave, the foursome created something wholly separate from the Bad Seeds, with an energy and emotional fury that pointed to the path-breaking music of their pasts while belying the maturity of the participants. Cave and his partners decided to give the new music an identity of its own, and Grinderman was born.

In February 2006, the band went into a studio in London and began a marathon session of writing and demoing material; the following April, they took the cream of these new songs and recorded an album

with the help of producer Nick Launay. The first Grinderman tune, "No Pussy Blues," was released to the Internet in the fall of 2006; a limited-edition vinyl single of "Get It On" was issued in February 2007, with Grinderman's 11-song debut album following that spring. In December of 2011, Cave announced the band's breakup at a music festival in Australia. Grinderman 2 RMX, collection of remixes from their second album, was released in the spring of 2012.

GRINDERMAN - GRINDERMAN 2007

Grinderman is the eponymous debut studio album by alternative rock band Grinderman, a side project of members of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, released on 5 March 2007 on Mute Records in Europe

and ANTI- in the United States. Aiming to recreate the more raw, primal sound[2] of all former related projects such as The Birthday Party, Grinderman's lyrical and musical content diverged significantly from Nick Cave's concurrent work with The Bad Seeds, whose last studio album, Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus (2004), was primarily blues, gospel and alternative-orientated in stark contrast to the raw sound of the early Bad Seeds albums. Incidentally, the musical direction of Grinderman influenced The Bad Seeds' next studio album, Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! (2008).

GRINDERMAN - GRINDERMAN 2  2010

Grinderman 2 is the second and final studio album by alternative rock band Grinderman, a side project of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, released on 13 September 2010 on Mute Records in the United Kingdom and ANTI- in the United States. At the ARIA Music Awards of 2011, the album was

nominated for ARIA Award for Best Adult Alternative Album. Grinderman had been put on hold due to the members' involvement on Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds' fourteenth studio album, Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!, in 2008. After the Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds summer tour in 2008, the band began recording the album in various studios throughout London. Speaking to XFM, Cave noted that the album "will feature a totally different sound" and plan to "do it a more serious way this time"; he remarked that he did not plan for the album to receive commercial success.

  1. Hey again something i don't know and from Aussie too. But i don't need the donation yet ( thanks haha...) Both avaible very cheaply.
It's amazing how commited you are and how much work you do. The year is coming to an end and it was better than the last one, which was already very strong. Probably the best year you've ever had without putting the others into perspective. Solely from the number of entries.
    GREAT KOSTAS THANK YOU.

  2. What Josef says! ‘xcept I WAS aware and bought these both (the second one first - it’s a long story! ) but always loved the Bad Seeds and in a week where Nick Cave stole our hearts by singing at Shane MacGowan’s funeral this is really timely somehow. Thanks Kostas!

  3. I'm going to tell a little story maybe someone will be interested. Today i met an old friend again by chance on the street after decades.
An excellent collector from the 60s and early 70s. In the second half of the 70s and early 80s he was far ahead of all of us in his knowledge and posseina of rarities. He certainly had one of the best record collections that existed at the time. I owe him a big thank you because he brought a lot of things to my attention during this time, but also to other people. So i said, we met and he knew that i was involved on this site. I also didn't know that is being watched like that by various people here in Vienna haha...
( I myself am not from Vienna, from the country side and only settled here in 1979).
The name of this excellent collector ERWIN BOCK. I would like to dedicate this entry to him and express my thanks for the past. Nothing is forgotten !

    1. Hi Josef. You mentioned in your little story the word "Site".
      What site do you mean?

    2. I meant Urban Aspirines, of course.
      That emerges from the text.

    3. I asked you because Urban Aspirines is not a site. It's a Blog. Site is a different thing. For example: Site is "It's psychedelic baby magazine", "Prog Archives", "All Music" and many more.

    4. Ok. I have never made such distinctions on the internet before.
