Crosby Stillls Nash & Young: Déjà Vu 1970 (50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition)

Crosby, Stills & Nash (CSN) was a folk-rock supergroup comprising American singer-songwriters

David Crosby and Stephen Stills and English singer-songwriter Graham Nash. When joined by Canadian singer-songwriter Neil Young, they were known as Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (CSNY). They are noted for their intricate vocal harmonies and lasting influence on American music and culture, their political activism and their tumultuous relationships.

CSN formed in 1968 shortly after Crosby, Stills and Nash performed together informally, discovering they harmonized well. Crosby had been asked to leave the Byrds in late 1967, Stills' band Buffalo Springfield had broken up in early 1968, and Nash left his band the Hollies in December. They signed a

recording contract with Atlantic Records in early 1969. Their first album, Crosby, Stills & Nash (1969) produced the Top 40 hits "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" and "Marrakesh Express". In preparation for touring, the trio added Young, Stills' former Buffalo Springfield bandmate, as a full member, along with the touring members Dallas Taylor (drums) and Greg Reeves (bass). As Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, they played the Woodstock festival that August.

Déjà Vu is the first album by the rock band Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and the second by the trio

configuration of Crosby, Stills, and Nash. It was released in March of 1970 by Atlantic Records, catalogue SD-7200. It topped the pop album chart for one week and generated three Top 40 singles: "Teach Your Children," "Our House," and "Woodstock."
Déjà Vu was greatly anticipated after the popularity of the first CSN album and the addition of Young to the group.

Stills estimates that the album took around 800 hours of studio time to record; this figure may be exaggerated, even though the individual tracks display meticulous attention to detail. The songs, except

for "Woodstock", were recorded as individual sessions by each member, with each contributing whatever was needed that could be agreed upon. Young does not appear on all of the tracks, and drummer Dallas Taylor and bassist Greg Reeves are credited on the cover with their names in slightly smaller typeface. Jerry Garcia plays pedal steel on "Teach Your Children" and John Sebastian plays mouth-harp on the title track.

Four singles were released from the album with all but the last (Carry On) charting on the Hot 100. The popularity of the album contributed to the success of the four albums released by each of the members in the wake of Déjà Vu: Neil Young's After The Gold Rush, Stephen Stills' self-titled solo debut:

Stephen Stills, David Crosby's If I Could Only Remember My Name, and Graham Nash's Songs For Beginners. In 2003, the album was ranked number 148 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.] The same year, the TV network VH1 named Déjà Vu the 61st greatest album of all time. The album ranked at #14 for the Top 100 Albums of 1970 and #217 overall by Rate Your Music.

  1. I bought the record as soon as it came out 1969 or 70. Now a classic. I remember how the best German music magazine " Sounds" at the time, bad mouthed the records. Too sweet, too commercial, too perfect etc... The critics also complained N. Young's lack of influence. You can be so wrong.
Unfortunanately the truth often takes time.
My absolute top track David Crosby " almost cut my hair.

    2. I once had a friend. For him the band were gods, hehe...it was the only band he played. Whether old or new everything was equally very good to him. I was at him once at home. He was playing a cassette and he didn't notice that the tapes were damaged.
He would have spoiled the band for me soon. I couldn't play it for years haha....

    1. Yes, sorry for delay having skipped this post first time thinking I had it all but now see the demos so will download it all (I don't like Neil Young). Yes, with no working vehicle I bicycled to the shelter with backpack. Had fun smoking the hemp and playing my new mp3 walkman as I just had learned I could pull out the headphones I use on my bike rides and listen to small speaker out loud! So one other guy with phone playing music and I was playing some Buffalo hard rock outside the grade school in smokers area. Lots of fun but when time to sleep on hallway floor outside the classroom, smoker friends convinced me 2 nights before impact (a cool native local with diabetes in a wheel chair who my new friend and I came into cafeteria with lights out call) said no big deal he had been thru many ha ha. But as 3 of us sitting inside saw on news hurricane switched from Tampa then potentially our successful Fabtech show in Orlando this week instead going down to Siesta beach and sparing downtown Sarasota buildings! Was so lucky as I rode home at midnight first night with no rain just sprinkles on my face was nice. Good too since next morning I cooked all my frozen food to prepare (shelter lost power 3AM Thursday morning then kicked everybody out of the shelter so glad I had food to survive 3 days no power! I picked up branches next day off sidewalk for my bike trips and had minimal damage in town luckily. Hemp store opened nearby too luckily after storm two days later as I was out. I worked show with rental car they got me two days ago with mini-golf putting game at booth. Today we have lunch with Basque factory folks and others before they leave. They will drive me to boat cruise out of Sarasota (yes, already access at beach!) tonight we leave at 4:30 pm today from work. Yes, 2 hurricanes after my brother in Atlanta died at age 63 on Sept. 17th from exceeding 15 mg of PUFA/MUFA per day like my dad at age 88 last year. This weekend I get biodegradable card to put stickers on and write to my brother to send to his surviving daughter to bury with him in Arabia mountain on Nov. 1st. He was teacher at Life College 35 years, writer and park ranger at mountains where his ashes will be buried. I wont be there. Also ceremony in MN during Thanksgiving but too much debt for me. Dr. Mercola's new book this month would have saved both my dad and brother in time as would the Copper Cure by Morely Robbins with Root Cause Protocol that I have followed for 2 years now that lowered my blood pressure in 4 months so I could go to dentist and get bridgework on my teeth. Lost 50 lbs bike commuting to work for 3 years so ready for old age now having just turned 56. Peace to you both, my good blogging friends who know good music and give it back to others.

    2. What an amazing story my friend. It really touched me. We know nothing about tornadoes here in Greece, but the scenes I've seen in TV were terrible. I don't know what to say about it. Just keep yourself safe ❤️.
