The Darts: Discography 2017 - 2024

 

The Darts are a band comprised of four of the hardest rocking, tight leather jump suit wearing gorgeous girls ever to take the stage. But don't let the good looks fool you. These girls can hold their

own. There is not a weak link in this band. They are one of the hottest live bands around right now, bar none.Lead singer Nicole Laurenne flips her vintage Farfisa Combo organ around like it's a fashion accessory. Bassist Christina Nunez will haunt you with her Gothic beauty and infectious bass lines. Guitar slinger Michelle Balderama is a first cousin of Legendary Garage Rock Guitarist Bobby Balderama of Question Mark & The Mysterians. and talent runs in the family. 
                             

Michelle uses the Wah Wah pedal like you have not heard since Iggy & The Stooges. I dare anyone

to not have a good time while watching drummer Rikki Styxx play. She lives to play the drums and it shows on her face. Rock N Roll was meant to be fun and Rikki is obviouslydoing what she loves. A band this dynamic on stage rarely transfers that energy to vinyl. But The Darts are no ordinary band. They are one of those acts that come around once in a lifetime. An all-female garage punk combo whose music fuses paisley-era fuzz with '70s punk swagger and primitivism, the Darts are a group that proves long-distance relationships can be rewarding. The Darts

were formed in Phoenix, Arizona by Nicole Laurenne, formerly a member of the Love Me Nots, Zero Zero, and Motobunny, and Michelle Balderrama of Brainspoon. The Darts (US), now based in Seattle, Washington, formed in 2015 with the goal of making great all-girl garage-rock noise, see the world, and have a fab slumber party every night. The four women threw on vintage black slips, kicked off their shoes, and set out on the adventure. 
                                

In the first year, the band put out two self-produced EPs and signed with Dirty Water Records

(UK), which then released the first full-length vinyl, Me.Ow (2017). Dirty Water then re-released the first two EPs as a second full-length vinyl, The Darts (2017). The band immediately went on tour with The Living End and Billie Joe Armstrong’s The Longshot, and soon found themselves on big European stages like Sjockfest, Cosmic Trip, and Roots n Roses. 
                     

In 2018, Jello Biafra signed The Darts to his label, Alternative Tentacles, released their first 7-inch,

Bullet (2018) and then put out the third full-length record, I Like You But Not Like That (2018). The band supported their heroes The Damned on a US tour, performed on main stages at big festivals like Punk Rock Bowling, Hipnosis Fest and The Bash, and got placements on top tv shows like Peaky Blinders and reviews in top publications like Rolling Stone. In 2023, Alternative Tentacles Records released The Darts’ fourth LP, Snake Oil, funded entirely by fans and co-produced by Jello Biafra himself. 
                                  

The band went on a 100-day European tour, with unique European editions of Snake Oil and sold-

out shows in Madrid, London, France, and Scotland, plus appearances at top festivals Munster Raving Looney Party (Spain), Relache Fest (France), Festival Beat (Italy), Loungefest (Holland), and Muehlen Madness (Germany). The first pressings of Snake Oil sold out in both the US and Europe in less than two months and second pressings were rushed out on both continents during the tour.
                           

While juggling the Snake Oil tours, the band recorded their fifth full-length record, Boomerang,

with Grammy-winning producer Mark Rains (Hoover iii, Death Valley Girls) at Station House Studio in Los Angeles. Once again the album was released by Alternative Tentacles on different US and EU editions in the March 2024 - and again followed by over four months of touring in Europe, UK, and USA. The album catapulted the band into feature articles in Rock n Folk, Rolling Stone, and many other major publications, plus appearances on France 24 television, BBC radio, a live show at Barlinnie Prison in Edinburgh, and inclusion on many best of 2024 lists. 
                                   

During the massive tour, the band recorded two new singles in Lyon, France. In 2025, The Darts will

release the new singles in June on a compilation of early essential tracks, Nightmare Queens, on Adrenalin Fix Music and on an Alternative Tentacles split 7-inch with labelmates Tsunami Bomb. In 3 march 2026 The Darts released their album Halloween Love Songs. The spark for the record came during a 2024 Rock n Folk interview in Paris. Singer and keyboard player Nicole Laurenne joked that Halloween deserved more than one novelty hit. By the time she got home, the joke had grown teeth.
                             

“I didn’t want an album that was just monster-costumes on the playground,” she says. “Side A is full of

colorful, early-evening energy, the kind of songs you could blast while the neighborhood lights are flicking on. But Side B is the soundtrack for after dark, when the bonfire is raging. It’s for sweaty middle-of-the-night dancing, making out on a bed of empty candy wrappers, and spinning through an all-nighter apocalypse.” It is a concept album, but not a themed gimmick. More like a two-sided mood built from years of shows where danger, joy, humor, sweat, and catharsis all live in the same hour.

downloads. Pressed on 12" black vinyl with pink splatter. Preorders will ship in mid-July, 2018.  Recorded by band members Michelle Balderrama, Nicole Laurenne, Christina Nunez, and Rikki Styxx in Los Angeles and Phoenix. 03. THE DARTS - I LIKE YOU BUT NOT LIKE THAT 2019

                             

Garage-punk-rock grrls will make your head slam and your feet shake. And then there's the music. The band switch between tracks that come out with a surging force, such as New Boy (maybe about their new

label boss, Jello Biafra), which careers along on the wave of a brilliant garage boogie, and those that step back and slide in like a desert-session serpent. Lead single Love U 2 Death takes the idea to its extreme, like a Black Rebel Motorcycle Club on a cocktail of acid and downers. It’s seductive in the way the vocals glide over a sparse rhythm and Meliza Jackson’s guitar screams from within. While the guitar and organ flit and fly over the songs, there is a tight rhythm section in the form of Cristina Nunez’s grooving bass and Rikki Styxx’s fantastic drumming.

The Darts return from their Bat Cave / Covid lair with Snake Oil — by far their best album to date. Snake

Oil is their most accomplished full-length recording to date, with a much fuller sound than any Darts disc before — courtesy of their longtime collaborator Bob Hoag and some remote control co-production wizardry from Jello Biafra himself.
Featuring the return of Nicole Laurnne on vocals, Farfisa and Hammond organs, Christina Nunez on bass

and vocals, and Meliza Jackson on guitars and vocals, Snake Oil also marks the debut of new drummer Mary Rose Gonzales. The result? Snake Oil comes out smoking as if this band has been in a pressure cooker throughout the pandemic.
