Gun: The Gun 1968 + Gunsight 1969

The Gun were a late 1960s British rock guitar trio who had a single British Top Ten hit, "Race with the Devil" and recorded two albums before disbanding. The band included brothers Paul

Gurvitz and Adrian Gurvitz. Evolving from the Ilford-based band, The Knack, which included guitarist/vocalist Paul Gurvitz (born Paul Anthony Gurvitz, 6 July 1944, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire (although he was known by the surname Curtis until the early 1970s), his brother Adrian Gurvitz and drummer Louie Farrell, the trio changed their name in early 1968 to The Gun.

The full Knack lineup had been Paul Curtis (Gurvitz) on guitar and vocals, Louie Farrell (born Brian

John Farrell, 8 December 1947, Goodmayes, Essex) (who had joined The Knack in mid 1966) on drums, Gearie Kenworthy on bass guitar (born 17 October 1946), Tim Mycroft playing organ (born 1949, Purewell, Christchurch, Dorset died 1 January 2010), and for a short while, Jon Anderson of Yes.

The Knack had regularly performed at the UFO Club, supporting bands such as Pink Floyd,

Arthur Brown and Tomorrow.
Recording sessions at Olympic Studios produced the unreleased single "Lights on the Wall", while in November 1967 they recorded for the BBC alternative music radio programme Top Gear[2] and twice played on air. In early 1968, the band changed its line-up to a trio, with Paul Curtis (Gurvitz) on bass, Louie Farrell on drums and Adrian Curtis (Gurvitz) on guitar.

After being signed to CBS Records in early 1968, the band scored a hit with the opening track from their eponymous album (1968), "Race with the Devil". Issued as a single in October 1968, it reached

the top 10 in the UK Singles Chart, number 35 on the Australian Singles Chart and number 1 in many UK territories in March 1969. Their debut album's cover is noteworthy as it was the first by Roger Dean (credited as "W. Roger Dean" on the back of the sleeve). AllMusic described it as having a "distinctive psych-flavoured proto-metal" sound. Their second album, Gunsight included "cover design + photos" by Hipgnosis and was released in 1969.

After a short time working separately, the Gurvitz brothers formed Three Man Army in 1971 and recorded three albums. Between 1974 and 1976, Three Man Army became the Baker Gurvitz Army with Ginger Baker, the former drummer for Cream, in the line-up.

Bulldog Breed: Made In England 1969

Bulldog Breed were an obscure late-'60s British psychedelic band who put out one album of typical but unremarkable music in the style,
though it was versatile in its approach, spreading across pop-psychedelia, more mod-ish, guitar-driven tracks, a bit of blues-rock, story-songs, and a jazzy piece. Prior to being in Bulldog Breed, drummer Louis Farrell had been in Gun, and some members had played with another obscure British '60s group, Please. After Bulldog Breed, some of them ended up in the similarly little-known outfits T2 and Asgard.

Their album, Made In England, has become somewhat of a collectable. Band members included Rob Hunt (flute, vocals), Rod Harrison (guitar), Nick Spencer (guitar), Bernie Jinks (bass), and Louis Farrell (drums). Keith Cross (guitar) also played with the band. The band also released one single in 1969, the

excellent ‘Portcullis Gate’/’Halo In My Hair’. ‘Portcullis Gate’ leaned more towards progressive rock, while ‘Halo In My Hair’ sounded more like early Pink Floyd. Farrell, who had previously been a member of the band Gun, played with the band Please, along with many other members of Bulldog Breed. Cross and Jinks formed T2, and Harrison played with Asgard. Members of the band ended up working for Cross ‘n’ Ross, The Moody Blues, Robert Plant, and Tony Hatch. Hunt passed away around 1998.

Bulldog Breed's mighty obscure album -- the only one they put out -- is face-in-the-crowd late-'60s British psychedelia, neither memorable nor annoying. It's a bit of a club sandwich of period U.K. psych approaches, from the assertive mod guitar chording of "Paper Man" and testosterone-driven bluesy rock to clomp-a-clomp singsong vignettes of everyday English life ("Eileen's Haberdashery

Store") and bittersweet harpsichord balladry ("Dougal"). Several cuts have an almost definitively clichéd late-'60s British wah-wah psych pop guitar, and the filtered-fishbowled texture of the vocal on "Austin Osmanspare" is likewise the kind of sound you rarely heard on record in any other years. "Friday Hill," the best song, is fairly nice sad meditative U.K. pop-psych, and "You" is an unexpected shift into an almost cocktail-jazzy breeze. An amazing mod/psych/freakbeat rarity from 1969, featuring members of T2 and The FLIES.

The Earthbound: Brotherhood Of The Dog 2004 + La Guerra Final 2008

The band was formed in Athens in 1998 by six members and former members of The Last Drive,

Honeydive, Rockin' Bones and Engine-V,
which includes Alexis Kalofolias and Thanos Amorginos. After playing locally for about a year, including a slot in Rockwave festival in 1999, the Earthbound recorded its debut 7" single "The Valley/Riverside Song/Tercera Cancion", released with Fractal Press magazine.

The Earthbound signed to Trade Records and recorded their self-titled debut album produced by their

sound-engineer, Jim Spliff. It was released in 2000 and featured 13 songs, including three covers of songs by Kyuss, Woody Guthrie and Guillermo Portaballes that showcased the band's diverse influences. [citation needed]

In 2001, they recorded the soundtrack for the film Stakaman by Antonis Kafetzopoulos, which was released by M Records. At the same period, Alex K and Thanos A worked on the soundtrack for the

film SOSE ME (directed by Stratos Tzitzis), released a few months later by Universal (Greece). The Earthbound spent the next eighteen months touring. They also took part in two benefit concerts for the campaign Escuelas para Chiapas (A School for Chiapas) and in June 2003 they played at the demonstration against the EU summit in Thessaloniki. In September 2003 Louis (former member of the historical Athenian punk band Stress) joined on trumpet and percussion.

In 2004, they signed to Sirius (the record label formed by Manos Hadjidakis) and started working on

their third album, Brotherhood of the Dog, this time produced by Jim Spliff and the band itself. The album was released later the same year and featured 11 songs (including an Ennio Morricone cover).

In early 2005, they played two gigs in Cyprus and recruited a second trumpet player, Johnny Mato (also

member of Dr. Vodkatini and Da Traces). The eight-piece band contributed a track to the Spinalonga records compilation In The Junkyard vol. II and continued touring and writing songs for their next album.

It was finally released in spring of 2008 at the band's own label, LAB Records, under the title La Guerra Final . Including 11 original songs, it is considered by many their best studio effort.

The Earthbound suspended action in summer of 2009.

Το συγκρότημα δημιουργήθηκε στην Αθήνα το 1998 από έξι μέλη και πρώην μέλη των The Last Drive , Honeydive , Rockin' Bones και Engine-V , στους οποίους συμμετέχουν ο Αλέξης Καλοφωλιάς και ο

George Thorogood And The Destroyers: Blues To The Bone Part 2.

George Lawrence Thorogood (born February 24, 1950) is an American musician, singer and songwriter

from Wilmington, Delaware. His "high-energy boogie-blues" sound became a staple of 1980s USA rock radio, with hits like his original songs "Bad to the Bone" and "I Drink Alone". He has also helped to popularize older songs by American icons, such as "Move It on Over", "Who Do You Love?", and "House Rent Blues/One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer".

With his band, the Delaware Destroyers (often known simply as "The Destroyers"), Thorogood has

released over 20 albums, two of which have been certified Platinum and six have been certified Gold. He has sold 15 million records worldwide. Thorogood and his band continue to tour extensively, and in 2014, the band celebrated their 40th anniversary of performing.

11. GEORGE THOROGOOD AND THE DESTROYERS - HAIRCUT 1993

Haircut is the ninth studio album by American rock band George Thorogood and the Destroyers, released on July 27, 1993. The first single from the album was "Get a Haircut". The album peaked at No. 120 on the Billboard 200. The band supported the album with a North American tour. The Windsor

Star wrote that "the guitar-slinging motor mouth offers another round of stinging and rocking blues, featuring that consistently fat sound with which his band has made its trademark style." The Calgary Herald deemed Haircut "boogie blues and rock 'n' roll ... And, yep, he hasn`t changed a thing." The Colorado Springs Gazette-Telegraph opined that "since shtick is exactly what Thorogood's become reduced to, the only phrase that comes to mind listening to this is, 'get a real job'."

George Thorogood hasn't changed his sound at all since his first live album, the aptly-titled Live. That's

not necessarily a bad thing -- his beer-stained bare-bones boogie has always satisfied his fans and it is never lacking in energy, particularly when he is stoked by the enthusiasm of a live crowd.

13. GEORGE THOROGOOD AND THE DESTROYERS - ROCKIN' MY LIFE AWAY 1997

Rockin' My Life Away is the tenth studio album released by George Thorogood and the Destroyers. It

was released in 1997 on Capitol Records. The album peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Top Blues Album chart. As the title says, George Thorogood has been rockin' his life away, churning out a series of heavy blues-rock records, all of them stylistically identical to each other. Rockin' My Life Away is no exception to the rule, and while it is marginally better than Haircut, it sounds so damned similar to all of his other records that even fans have to wonder what the point is anymore.

14. GEORGE THOROGOOD AND THE DESTROYERS - HALF A BOY/HALF A MAN 1999

The album serves up the blooze-n-boogie that Thorogood fans love and his detractors have come to

despise. The difference is, Terry Manning's production keeps things moving, resulting in his liveliest record in nearly a decade. Unfortunately, the album isn't blessed with the strong material that characterized Rockin' My Life Away, but that album didn't have the raw, visceral edge that this album does. And when it comes to rockin' blues, sometimes it's better to have better sound than better songs.

Recorded on May 4, 2004, at the Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham, England, George Thorogood & the Destroyers sound as spirited and enthusiastic as they did 30 years ago playing bars in their Delaware hometown. While some naysayers might call the track listing repetitive, they obviously miss the point

of Thorogood's live gigs to begin with. Hardcore Thorogood fans will wonder what happened to certain staples like "Move It On Over" or "I'm Wanted," but basically all of the tried and true showstoppers are included: "Bad to the Bone," John Lee Hooker's "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer," Bo Diddley's "Who Do You Love," and "I Drink Alone." George Thorogood & the Destroyers' 30th Anniversary Tour: Live is raucous, fun, and passionate, finding both band and audience having a great time.
