Moon Martin: Shots From A Cold Nightmare 1978 + Street Fever 1980 + Mystery Ticket 1982

John David "Moon" Martin (October 31, 1945 – May 11, 2020) was an American singer-

songwriter and guitarist. Born in Altus, Oklahoma, United States, he was originally a rockabilly artist as a member of the Oklahoma-based band The Disciples
, who moved to Los Angeles and adopted the name Southwind in 1967. At this time, their style shifted towards country rock. Southwind released three studio albums before disbanding in 1971.

They enjoyed moderate success, with two of their singles charting nationally: "Ready to Ride" (No. 127

in 1969) and "Boogie Woogie Country Girl" (No. 105 in 1970). One of the more curious characters of the new wave movement, singer/guitarist/songwriter Moon Martin issued several critically acclaimed yet commercially underappreciated releases from the late 1970s through the early '80s before reappearing in the mid-'90s.

Martin also began to focus on a solo career at this time (1973), adopting the nickname "Moon" from

friends after it became an inside joke because of the songwriter's penchant for mentioning the word in his compositions. By 1978, Martin (who by this time was known simply as Moon Martin) was finally ready to launch his solo career, with his look and music often compared to such new wave hitmakers as Elvis Costello and Nick Lowe.

A total of five albums in a five-year span followed, including such titles as 1978's Victim of Romance

EP (whose track "Bad Case of Lovin' You" would become a hit when covered by Robert Palmer), 1979's Shots from a Cold Nightmare/Escape from Domination (which scored Martin his sole hit single, "Rolene"), 1980's Street Fever, and 1982's Mystery Ticket, all of which were issued on the Capitol label.

n then dropped out of the music scene for the rest of the '80s and the early part of the '90s, before

resurfacing in 1995 with a pair of releases, Cement Monkey and Lunar Samples. The same year, the British label Edsel reissued Martin's first four full-length releases as two-for-one CDs (Shots from a Cold Nightmare was paired with Escape from Domination, while Street Fever was combined with Mystery Ticket). Producer Craig Leon, who had worked with Moon Martin, confirmed that the rocker died on May 11, 2020.

MOON MARTIN - SHOTS FROM A COLD NIGHTMARE 1978

Shots From a Cold Nightmare is a catchy batch of radio-flavored rock &roll, even though Martin's songs can seem to get a little too serious when it comes to the perils of infidelity, which is what most of them are about.

Moon Martin : X - Ray Vision 45 rpm Single 1982

Born in Oklahoma in 1950, Martin gained recognition in the 1970s as a pop artist and composer. Originally a rockabilly artist, he wrote the songs "Bad Case of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor)", made famous by the English singer Robert Palmer, and "Cadillac Walk", made famous by the American singer Willy DeVille.

Martin scored two minor hits of his own with "Rolene" (#30 Billboard Hot 100) and "No Chance" (#50), both in 1979. His 1982 song, "X-Ray Vision" was an MTV hit music video.

He was given the nickname "Moon" because many of his songs had the word "moon" in the lyrics.[1]

"X-Ray Vision" is a song written and first recorded by Moon Martin from his album Mystery Ticket. It was later covered by the freestyle music group TKA, released as a single from the album Scars of Love in 1988. Their cover of the song reached No. 26 on the Billboard dance/club play chart.

X - RAY  VISION  LYRICS

You think your clever words will fool me, baby
The magic in your eyes will cool me, baby
How long will you go on pretending, baby
Looking for a happy ending, baby

Well, it's me you're trying to bluff
Your cards ain't high enough
When I look your way
You just turn away

X-ray vision
Baby I can see through you
X-ray vision
Baby I believe in you

Looking out my room, the stars are burning
There's a lesson that I should be learning
You know lead will never hide it, baby
Now that I can see behind it baby

Tell the world to wait
Til we set the record straight
Little one do you choose
Every look you use

X-ray vision
Baby I can see through you
X-ray vision
Baby I believe in you

Moon Martin: Escape From Domination 1979

Born in Oklahoma in 1950, Martin gained recognition in the 1970s as a pop artist and composer. Moon Martin : The Very Best Of (1999)

One of the more curious characters of the new wave movement, singer/guitarist/songwriter Moon Martin issued several critically acclaimed yet commercially underappreciated releases from the late

1970s through the early '80s before reappearing in the mid-'90s. Best known for penning ROBERT PALMER's toughest hit BAD CASE OF LOVING YOU and MINK DEVILLE's cult classic CADILLAC WALK, nerdy looking new waver MOON MARTIN had a way with a wry, twisted lyric. Even album titles like SHOTS FROM A COLD NIGHTMARE and ESCAPE FROM DOMINATION evoked dark, vivid imagery. MARTIN dished out sinewy axe licks and oddball high-pitched vocals on

the chugging ROLENE (his only TOP 40 hit), skin-tingling sweat-fest HOT NITE IN DALLAS, and painkiller ballad NO CHANCE. VERY BEST reels off a volley of power poppin' shotgun blasts from his peak period seventies platters, tempered by a less acerbic set of eighties material. This is slick, catchy stuff delivered by a hook heavy hellcat...it's a shame more people weren't exposed to these lunar samples.
