POPTONE - POPTONE 2018
Bauhaus introduced what we now refer to as goth music. Its dark wave sound was glam, punk and dance. Bauhaus members Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins followed that band with Tones on Tail, a
short-lived side project with Bauhaus roadie Glen Campling. Haskins and Ash next turned to alt-rock act Love and Rockets, with David J. Now, Haskins and Ash are back with Poptone, which includes Haskins’ daughter, bassist Diva Dompe. The trio, which is in the midst of a its first tour, played the final of three NorCal shows at the Regency Ballroom.
Together, they play a dynamic mix of songs from their previous projects with a special emphasis on
Tones on Tail material. The band arrived after an extended absence from Ash, who had essentially retired from live touring following Love and Rockets' farewell dates in 2008.
Poptone is a rock band formed in early 2017 by British musicians Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins. In
their initial press release, the band announced: "Daniel and Kevin are revisiting their storied catalogue and presenting in a fresh, new direction, to combine their histories with a reinvigorated outlook for new tours and potentially new music."An eponymous live album recorded at various stops on the tour was self-released on 17 December 2017, funded through PledgeMusic.
Purportedly, the genesis of POPTONE happened in early 2017 after Ash fell asleep watching music
videos online, only to be awakened by Motörhead's "Ace of Spades." Inspired to play live, he reconnected with Haskins, who in turn brought Dompe on board. The trio then embarked on a world tour, and released an eponymous concert album documenting the shows.
Riff Magazine critic Rachel Goodman reviewed a Poptone concert in San Francisco, saying "It was
easy to forget just how many amazing songs Ash and Haskins have in their arsenal."

THE BUBBLEMEN - THE BUBBLEMEN ARE COMING! 1988
The Bubblemen were a side project formed in 1988 by the members of alternative rock band Love and
Rockets. Love and Rockets members Daniel Ash (guitar, saxophone and vocals), David J (bass and vocals) and Kevin Haskins (drums, synthesizers) dressed up in bee-like costumes for performances.
The band released one single, "The Bubblemen Are Coming!", for which a music video was also
produced. It was issued by Beggars Banquet Records in several format variations, including additional tracks "Bubblemen Rap", "Bubblemen Rap (Dub Version)" and "Bees". A brief excerpt of "The Bubblemen are Coming!" appeared in the Love and Rockets videos "No New Tale to Tell" and "Yin and Yang (The Flowerpot Man)".

It's not for me - a question of taste.
ReplyDeleteWhen are you going in vacation ?
It's going to be 36 degrees here again in the next few days and it's been like that the whole time. It's lucky that i have a lake ( only 3 min.( away from me.
Next Monday I 'm leaving. I'm going to Agistri island, a very little island with beautiful beaches and blue blue sea.
DeleteI know that. I have spent a number of years by the sea.
DeleteIf you are interested in where i live, all you have to do is enter the " Wienerberg Erholungsgebiet" under pictures. As i said', i'm only a few min. from the lake. Here you can swim naked if you want.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful place, beautiful lake, but in the Greek islands the sea is incomparable.
DeleteIt's hard to compare. It's like comparing apples with oranges. I'm here right now. The water is wonderful, the sky is cloudless and the temperatures 34 degrees. I have 100 friends and acquaintances in this place. And almost in the middle of the city. A paradise.
DeleteI'm glad for you.
DeleteThanks for these! I always preferred Tones On Tail to the other bands they were in, brilliant to hear these reworkings. Excellent blog, there's always cool stuff to explore. Hope you enjoy your vacation! Cheers!
