Everything started back in 2002, in the Land Of Oz, Australia, by a neo-psychedelic band called The Dolly
Rocker Movement, formed by singer-guitarist Daniel Poulter. They managed to release three full-length albums, “Electric Sunshine” (2006), “A Purple Journey Through the Mod Machine” (2007) and “Our Days Mind the Tyme” (2009), through independent Australian record label Off the Hip before disbanding in 2013. In 2013 Bad Afro released the 7-inch Single “Your Side Of Town” which symbolized the transition from The Dolly Rocker Movement into The Dandelion.
Also in 2013, The Dandelion self-released their debut album “Strange Case Of The Dandelion” and in 2014 Bad Afro records released “The Dandelion” – a mini album containing 6 songs taken from “Strange Case Of The Dandelion”. In 2015 through Strange Yonder label, the band released their 2nd album, the ethereal, magical and beloved “Seeds, Flowers and Magical Powers of The Dandelion”.
Through the recording sessions of this album, Daniel transferred all of his artistic creativity into Natalie De Silver, through this transformation, the Spirit remained worried and concerned, however, the final sounding result obtained Natalie’s ‘stamp’, musically and lyrically… In December 2018, France label Six Tonnes De Chair Records released the 7 inch Single “Every Other Day”, a precursor to their 3rd album entitled “Old Habits And New Ways Of The Dandelion”, scheduled for release on the 1st of April (2019) through Greek label Blackspin Records!
At the forefront in helping propel, if not begin, the revival of 1960’s influenced psych music by coming to prominence, some 15 years ago, as the seminal neo-psych outfit, The Dolly Rocker Movement.
Natalie de Silver possesses in spades that intangible it, that certain quality, that magic variable most strive for while expressing one’s artistic ability. Is an ongoing, repetitive psych groove that will get under your skin before you even realize it. This hypnotizing and magnetizing droning beat with a Velvet Underground drive, a sexy organ in the back, a punchy guitar solo midway and Natalie De Silver‘s sensuous voice is something you’ll have on repeat for some time.
These kooky Sydney musicians are the result of breeding Bowie with The Violet Femmes and giving birth in the middle of a circus. Just when I think I've pinned down their sound, they go on a wild trip into other eras, other lands, and the only thing that I'm assured of is that it will be awesomely
fun and the influence of Brian Jonestown Massacre and Marc Bolan is instantly apparent. This is one of those bands who are a lot of fun, though not to be taken too seriously as they attempt to charm the listener into their vision of cosmic pastures laced with sunlight and love. They do have the ability to shine with spellbinding style, grace, and at times elegance, with their breathy intoxicating vocal deliveries and boundless energy.
“Born out of magic and hopelessly romantic. A message from the fire. The flames are burning
higher and ever so brightly, softly, sweet scars & beauty, death like, so lovely. Ghosts and Gods sing Pharaoh melodies”. Natalie De Silver founder of The Dandelion describes her band. This four-piece group take 60s psych influences and ghostly sounds into modern world. We had a lovely chat with Natalie, while the flute and the organ ring out in the night…"My studio is my home and I mostly record music in my lounge room."
"Sometimes I write songs in my kitchen or bedroom. I like composing songs on either guitar, organ or drums first, then I just make the rest up. I have an old cassette recorder I like to record on. However, the
next Dandelion record we’re going into a proper studio which is really exciting!. for independent artists like us who sell our own music through sites like Bandcamp or at our own shows and mange our own social media platforms it’s very personal. The Dandelion originally began as a solo recording project for Daniel Poulter (1981-2015) who recorded Strange Case of The Dandelion."
The Dandelion weave an old kind of magic. Their own mix of musical spells are not unlike those
woven in the 1960’s and have seduced many believers in their brief musical career. What started as a studio project evolved into a live band led by Natalie de Silver who writes, records and produces the band’s original material. The Dandelion’s 2nd LP titled Seeds Flowers and Magical Powers of The Dandelion caught the ears of many listeners around the globe, many of whom catapulting it to their favorite album of 2015.
Channeling mystical garage psych flower power vibes from the mid 60’s, Australia’s The Dandelion, are perfectly poised for a love-in, complete indie chunking California guitars, a mystical floating
eastern atmosphere, frantic folky fluting, fuzzed reverb, and a teetering structure that dances so close to the edges of parody, that at times I wondered how they hadn’t fallen into the abyss. In 2017 Natalie begun working on a third album titled “Old Habits & New Ways of The Dandelion. Last year, The Dandelion joined the Gizzfest, curated by Ozzie favorites King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.

THE DANDELION - STRANGE CASE OF THE DANDELION 2013
The Dandelion, uses those same sensibilities as The Dolly Rocke Movement, , though without the
mussel, to carry on this incarnation of his vision. That best includes effortless songwriting and vintage organic music that creeps happily into your being, sounding equally as fresh today as would have in the mid 60’s … heavy on lush short hooks, fluid movements, and at times a more bluesy boogie use of his guitar, though there is still a fair amount of fuzzed out stringed instrumentation riding as an undercurrent. There's also an unexpected amount of Middle Eastern flute inspired influences that
are wholly original in their use and presentation that are lightly structured to turn off your mind and gently carry you down stream. And that all left me with a nice dreamy drifting pop laden neo-psych album where the music is drenched with patchouli smoke and half forgotten visions from so long ago.

OLD HABBITS NEW WAYS LYRICS
Falling down down down,
to the ways of the night and the underground.
Everything’s clear oh so clear,
take a good look around as the end is here.
Moments away, star of the day,
burn right through, me & you.
Dark may fall, upon us all,
here to stay, Milky Way.
Ruins of the past may only last,
dreams come true for me and for you.
We’re spinning round and round and round,
we’re here on this earth
but bound to the ground.
Fly away away away,
we long to take flight
like the birds of the day and the bats of the night.
Tell me its true its true its true,
that there’s a life beyond this form for me and for you.
As the Gods came down from up above,
they gave us hate but may we rule with Love.

ReplyDeleteWe don't have Halloween now in Greece. Our Halloween is different, starts in February for 4 weeks.
DeleteSounds like our Marty Gras in February. Cheers
DeleteI don't know what is Mary Gras.
DeleteThanks for these, the description is very intriguing, I'm looking forward to checking out this band. Brilliant blog, thanks for all the work you put into the write ups and image curating. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteDo you know the psychedelic band TANGLE EDGE ? I have a German who offer them 5 pieces cheaply.
ReplyDeleteI have 2 albums: 1. Tarka 1997 and 2. In search of a new dawn. I don't remember their music, I listened them many years ago, only once, and I don't remember if it was good or not. If you want, I can listen them tomorrow and I will tell you my opinion.
DeleteBut I think that they are very influenced of Jazz Rock.
DeleteI listened to the 2 albums that I have. Now, in 2024, I don't find them interesting. They have nothing to do with the Psychedelia. They are more Jazz Rock
DeleteThank you for your effort. There is already psychedelic and maybe i just listened to these numbers first which i why i wanted to order them. But jazzrock-not for me. Instead yesterday i fulfilled a long standing wish and ordered the 2.+3. Lp from MISTREATED. Was always very expensive and i could now get them realtively cheaply. The 1st is still too expensive. PROG in the next entry ? If it's old, i'm sure it's there.
DeleteI've already listened. ARE VERY GOOD and ordered. All from the band's early days , i think these are the best.
ReplyDeleteYou're right. Was still able to withdraw from the order.
