Biography

The Crooner's story begins in 1992, when Zissimos (guitarist and singer of One Night Suzan) started working on a solo project with the nick-name "The Crooner" in order to express his love for bossa nova music and bands like Everything But The Girl or Cherry Red Records. In his first acoustic live gigs he was assisted by Makis P.,then member of Next Time Passions. When he was preparing his first solo 7" for This Happy Feeling in 1994 the people who helped him were again Makis P, who also recorded and produced it, and Dimitris ( now D.F.A.) on drums and saxophone. Zissimos and Makis worked so well together that, after their bands split, they decided to collaborate permanently , thus turning the Crooner into a duo.

Their love for pop and also electronic music led the Crooner to a new direction, a mixture of pure pop with some electronic elements, which evolves day by day. The first signs of this evolution came with "Alberto Caeira", a song featured in the first Shelflife Rec. compilation in 1996. Then followed "Heaven Airlines" in the same label, which attracted the attention of a larger public, and the interest of Japanese labels. In this CD the 2 boys are helped by Miss Honeybeetle on female vocals, and try to find a balance between their early acoustic sound and their electronic influences.A song from this CD ("Over the Rainbow") also attracted the attention of Bungalow Rec. and included it in their "Atomium 3003" Club Pop compilation. Club pop ? Well, almost. The latest Crooner release, "Soft Escape" (11 track CD on Pop Art Rec.) manages to express pop music as a free form art, combining everything, from bossanova to ambient to j-pop to house music, but is still 100% Crooner music. This CD also features Miss Honeybeetle, as well as Natasha, whose voices give extra sweetness and colors to this pop journey. Also note that "Soft Escape" was co-produced by Hyplar, who also produced most of the bonus tracks on the Japanese release of "Heaven Airlines"

Kissamatic Lovebubble was one of these more inspired bands characterised by pure pop frenzy. With their name taken from a Strawberry Story and… oh, an unhealthy obsession with The Wedding Present… the Kissamatics set out to conquer the world of Greek indiepop. Their noisy jangly guitars and Vassilis’ heartbroken voice never failed to impress the audiences with drunken tales of lost love.

Frijid Pink : Frijid Pink 1970

Frijid Pink , formed from members of the Detroit Vibrations , spent their first two years touring throughout the Southeast Michigan/Detroit area . The group eventually signed with Parrot Records in 1969 .
Frijid Pink often shared billing then with the MC5 , The Stooges , The Amboy Dukes and others .

Detroit hard rockers Frijid Pink formed in 1967 , originally comprised of singer Kelly Green , guitarist Gary Ray Thompson , bassist Tom Harris , keyboardist Larry Zelanka and drummer Richard Stevers . After two years of relentless touring throughout the southeast Michigan area , the group substituting Harris for new bassist Thomas Beaudry signed with the Parrot label in 1969 . Although their first two singles , "Tell Me Why" and "Drivin' Blues," failed to attract much attention , their third effort for the company a distorted , guitar-heavy interpretation of "The House of the Rising Sun" reached the Top Ten on the U.S. pop charts , becoming an even bigger hit overseas . Frijid Pink's self-titled debut LP followed in 1970 , as did the follow-up Defrosted . Subsequent singles including "Sing a Song for Freedom" and "Heartbreak Hotel" however , failed to match earlier successes , and after 1972's " Earth Omen " the group did not re-enter the studio until recording 1975's " All Pink Inside " disbanding soon after.

Jason Ankeny , All Music Guide

Frijid Pink is the debut album and it was originally released in early 1970 by London Records' now-defunct Parrot subsidiary label (cat. no. PAS 71033).

Dead Moon : In The Graveyard 1988

Dead Moon was a Clackamas , Oregon band fronted by singer/guitarist/songwriter Fred Cole . Toody Cole , Fred's wife , played bass and Andrew Loomis played drums . Formed in 1987 , the band combined garage rock , punk , and country in their stripped-down sound . Fred Cole engineered most of the band's recordings and mastered them on a mono lathe that was used for The Kingsmen's version of "Louie Louie" . Their early records , such as In the Graveyard , were released on the Tombstone Records label , named for the musical equipment store Fred and Toody operated at the time . Soon they caught the attention of the German label Music Maniac Records , and toured Europe successfully . Not until the mid-nineties did they tour the United States . Much of their following is in Europe .

1. Graveyard
2. Out On A Wire
3. Can't Help Falling in Love (Elvis Presley)

4. Parchment Farm (Mose Allison)
5. Dead In The Saddle
6. Hey Joe
7. Don't Burn The Fires
8. Where Did I Go Wrong,
9. Remember Me
10. I Hate The Blues

Don't Burn The Fires

Running away, i knew i was wrong
I's tried to fit in where i didn't belong
Wearing their clothes, playing their games
Being a part of that urban decay
Don't burn the fires, i'm never coming home

When the morning sky was cold and grey
I could hear the whispers of my own mistakes
Those warning eyes, that final touch
No one seemed to care that much
So don't burn the fires, i'm never coming home

And when i'd reached my destination
I thought someday i might return
Cause deep inside was the need
To feel the home fires burn
But a faltering voice merely whispered
My name as if we'd never expected to
Hear it again, and my heart grew
Cold to that indifferent sound

Don't burn the fires, i'm never coming home

Atomic Rooster : IV ( The USA Version ) 1973

This is the USA Version , NOT AVAILABLE ON CD

Dadicade to my old friend : George Gallagher

Atomic Rooster were an English rock band , formed by ex-Crazy World of Arthur Brown members. Throughout its history , keyboardist Vincent Crane was the only constant member , and wrote the majority of their material . Their history is defined by two periods , in the early 1970s and the early 1980s . Their genre in music is difficult to define , since they went through radical changes in very short times during their life . However , their best-known era represented a more hard rock/progressive rock sound , exemplified by their only hit singles , "Tomorrow Night" (UK no. 11) and "The Devil's Answer" (UK no. 4) , both in 1971 .

Steve Bolton left at the end of 1972 , and was replaced by John Goodsall , under the name Johnny Mandala . They release the album Nice 'n' Greasy in 1973 with the single "Save Me" , a re-working of "Friday the 13th" . This time , it was in a complete funk mood
Crane then found Chris Farlowe , at that time in Colosseum , and he took the place of Pete French .

Wiseblood : Dirtdish 1987

Wiseblood is an electronic noise-rock band formed by Clint Ruin (aka J. G. Thirlwell) and Roli Mosimann. In Ruin's words , Wiseblood is " violent American music made by non-Americans ". The material tends toward the realm of the darkest and most sexual Foetus songs , with Mosimann's Swans lineage showing in the slow , crushing pacing of many tracks . Thematically , Wiseblood's lyrics center around the misanthropic exertion of power , typically via murder , sex or assault . Wiseblood existed on-and-off from the mid 1980s through early 1990s .

Wiseblood is a collaboration between J. G. Thirlwell (Foetus) and Roli Mosimann (Swans).

James George Thirlwell (born 29 January 1960) , aka Clint Ruin , aka Frank Want , aka Foetus , is an Australian vocalist , composer and record producer . He emerged during (and is sometimes associated with) the No Wave era , however because of his musical diversity (which at times has included passage in the Electronic music genres) he is perhaps more well known for going beyond categorization , by juxtaposing a variety of different styles .

Roli Mosimann is a drummer, electronic musician and record producer whose contributions range from industrial to pop. Originally from Switzerland, Mosimann first made his mark in the New York City no wave band Swans and later collaborated with Foetus mastermind J. G. Thirlwell as Wiseblood.

Their distinctive sound is a combination of hard ragga-jungle rhythms , indo-dub liners , searing sitar- inspired guitars and 'traditional' sounds gleaned from their parents record collections , shot through with fast-chat conscious lyrics .

HYPOCRITE

We will get inside your mind
You will pay for your crimes
We will bleed you dry
Your pockets will be empty
But you won't know why.

Redistribution is the name of the game
All the cash that you stash man
We're gonna give away
Lizard man beware
This is the digital underclass
Coming from places you've only seen from your car
Accountant, lawyer, financial adviser
PR Consultant, journalist, advertiser
We know your game
And you think that we're playing it
But when the bill comes through the door
You're gonna be paying

The word is community
We shout it with impunity
It's so uncool
It's incendiary
No slogans
No soundbites
But a long term plan
Teaching is the framework
Building chains of command
So when the Lizard Man sticks out his tongue
We pull out our scissors and do a hit and run.

This is the digital underclass...

Chorus:
But I was framed
I was framed
I never did nothing
but now I was, I was framed

The cops took me to a little room where the bright lights shine
there was ten poor souls like me standin' in the line
I knew I was the victim of somebody's evil plan
when a stool pigeon looked at me an' said....

That's your man!

Chorus

Then the public prosecutor started prosecutin' me

He said "Where were you on the third of June 1963?"
Them cats with rubber hoses started givin' me the third degree....

Biography by Richie Unterberger

Figures of considerable repute within the Los Angeles post-punk community of the 1980s, Savage Republic grafted tribal percussion, industrial drones, and raga-like guitar lines together to craft an idiosyncratically moody sound with flashes of both desolation and eloquent grandeur. Capable of both harsh dissonance and shimmering textures, the band's guiding force was guitarist Bruce Licher, a founder and constant presence in their shuffling lineups. Alternating between cyclic instrumentals and quasi-industrial assaults with gruff, chanted vocals, their records were unavoidably inconsistent, but most contain some enduring highlights.

Savage Republic was founded by former UCLA students Licher and drummer Mark Erskine in the early '80s. Adding new members, the group originally called themselves Africa Corps, changing the name to Savage Republic just before releasing their first record in 1982. Exotic percussion would always play a big role in Savage Republic -- even in the early days they were using oil cans, metal pipes, and 55-gallon drums. Their early singles, and their debut LP Tragic Figures (1982), show the group at their least accessible, though there are hints of the more mysterious and melodic elements to come.

After some personnel changes (some members went off to form 17 Pygmies), Savage Republic regrouped with a more guitar-oriented sound. On Ceremonial (1985), the band shifted their focus to mostly instrumental material, usually piloted by oddly tuned guitars (the group sometimes used guitars with six identically tuned strings). They'd never wholly abandon those droning, angst-driven chants, though. Combined with the fact that their instrumental material wouldn't break much new ground over the course of the decade, that can make their studio albums uneven listening. In any case, the band was best experienced live, where they would burn trash cans of pampas leaves, play on Los Angeles' Skid Row, and use all sorts of unexpected objects for percussion in their quest to make each concert a unique event.

Savage Republic's albums, which were individually hand-letterpressed and numbered by Licher himself, received as much attention for their packaging as their music. Licher would perform the same services for other bands on his Independent Project label, even getting a Grammy nomination for his work on the first Camper Van Beethoven LP. Savage Republic was not destined to become nearly as big as Camper (not that this was ever their intent), and disbanded around 1990. A small reunion tour brought the band back in the fall of 2002, but the band only played a few random dates. After relocating to Arizona, Licher continues to run the Independent Project label, and design sleeves (his most famous work in that department has been for an R.E.M. Christmas fan club single). Musically, he resurfaced with the trio Scenic, which plays entirely instrumental material that blends the exotic flavor of Savage Republic with influences from Ennio Morricone and southwest border music.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY URBAN ASPIRINES 2009

Kostas

Keep on rockin' in a free world.

Then the public prosecutor started prosecutin' me
That man wanted to find what was my pedigree
He said "Where was you on the third of June 1963?"
And then them cats with rubber hoses started givin' me the third degree

But I was framed
I never did nothing
But I was framed

DODS  OF  WAR

Who so ever...touches one hair...on yon grey head...dies like a dog.
March on!
Dogfight. Backbite. No one way of winning.
Please squeeze. Move your knees. Make way for a new beginning.
Hot cash. Backlash. Running from a living
Look around for new ground.
Make way to enter heaven

Chorus:

Wasted men feeding on the scraps
Dogs of war waiting in the traps
The hounds of hell. Machine gun fire
Memories of a fool for hire

Come trouble..on the double
The mongrel..show his face
No claim..No name. Insanity..to blame

Chorus

There may be danger in your head
You'll never know until you're dead

Come trouble..on the double
The mongrel..show his face
No claim..No name. Insanity..to blame

Royal Squire! He'll be there!
Cause he's caught up in the game

Chorus
Chorus

Dogs of war and the hounds of hell
Together... they don't go so well
Dogs of war and the hounds of hell
Together... they don't go so well
The dogs of war and the hounds of hell!

The Sensational Alex Harvey Band : Next 1973

Alex Harvey was born February 5, 1935, in Glasgow, growing up in the hardscrabble projects of that industrial Scottish city. After leaving school at 15, as the story goes, he tackled as many as 36 different professions, including lion tamer, before turning to music. In 1954, Alex Harvey made his professional debut playing trumpet at a Glaswegian wedding celebration.

By 1955 , Alex had played with a number of different Dixieland and jazz ensembles , particularly honing his musical skills in two bands with saxophonist Bill Patrick. (The Clyde River Jazz Band played "trad" jazz, while the Kansas City Skiffle Group banged out the country/folk-flavored "youth music" of the time.) By 1956, when Memphis trucker skiffle.gif Elvis Presley's interpretation of "race music" had become firmly entrenched in British culture, Harvey had won a newspaper competition as Scotland's answer to British teen idol Tommy Steele. He covered Big Bill Broonzy and Jimmie Rodgers tunes until the skiffle craze petered out; then, transformed into the Kansas City Counts, Alex Harvey's band played pop covers.

Like many other British blues-based groups of the time, Harvey's local popularity led to a contract at the famous Top Ten Club in Hamburg, Germany. Residency there garnered the band a recording contract with Polydor Records and the release of Alex Harvey and His Soul Band, a live album, in March, 1964. (Interestingly enough, the Soul Band was replaced on the German recording by Liverpudlian rockers "Kingsize" Taylor & the Dominos). Several singles culled from those sessions, including covers of Willie Dixon's "I Just Want to Make Love To You" and Muddy Waters' "Got My Mojo Workin'", were released in both Britain & the US.

In 1965 he'd teamed up with his brother Les to record The Blues, fulfilling his obligations to Polydor.

alex1.gifThe Blues was a spartan effort, just the Harvey brothers with sparse acoustic guitar accompaniment. A commercial failure, the album consisted of such varied (but un-Soul Band-like) numbers as "Strange Fruit" and the Aussie novelty tune "Waltzing Matilda". Alex released another Polydor single under the "Soul Band" moniker, "Ain't That Just Too Bad", then disolved the band, now declaring himself a folksinger.

By 1967, Alex had found steadier work in the backup band for the London production of Hair.

With his career rapidly declining, Harvey lucked into a fortuitous discovery -- Glasgow prog rockers Tear Gas, fronted by guitarist Zal Cleminson and featuring Hugh and Ted McKenna with bassist Chris Glen. Together, they morphed into the " Sensational Alex Harvey Band " in 1972.
That same year, Alex's brother Les, now guitarist with vocalist Maggie Bell's Stone the Crows, was freakishly electrocuted onstage at a gig in Swansea, Wales.

Recurring back problems exacerbated by his physically demanding stage antics forced Harvey to announce, in October 1977, imagehis retirement from full-time rock 'n' roll.Following a rare European tour, Harvey was stricken in Zeebrugge, Belgium, with a fatal heart attack. Rock lost one of its most enigmatic and original proponents on February 4, 1982, the day before Alex Harvey would have turned 47.
