FRANK QUITELY : The Artist

Vincent Deighan (born 1968), better known by the pen name Frank Quitely, is a Scottish comic book artist.
He drew various stories in Paradox Press' series of The Big Book Of graphic novels, as well as work in Dark Horse Presents for Dark Horse Comics.
His big break into American comics was Flex Mentallo in 1996, a Doom Patrol spin-off written by fellow Glaswegian Grant Morrison for DC Comics' Vertigo imprint.
Initially he worked on strips for anthology titles such as Weird War Tales, and drew three issues of Jamie Delano's 2020 Visions, as well as various covers for DC.

ETERNAL  NIGHTS

A collection of seven stories dedicated to the seven brothers and sisters, the "Eternals", that regulate the fate of this world.

The ETERNALS :

DEATH
DESIRE
DREAM
DESPAIR
DELIRIUM
DESTRUCTION
DESTINY

The Artists  :

Glenn Fabry
Milo Manara
Miguelanxo Prado
Frank Quitely
P. Craig Russell
Bill Sienkiewicz
Barron Storey

This short story ( No 7 ) is simply a wander through DESTINY's garden of forking paths.
Based on the clothes of Delirium's statue in one of the panels and the posture of Dream's statue, it seems to be taking place during The Kindly Ones.
This story was originally to be illustrated by (Jean Giraud Moebius).
Neil Gaiman knew that, because of his age and health, the artist would not be able to give much of a time commitment so he designed this story to be short and full of full page pictures.
In the end, sickness prevented Moebius from working on the story and (Frank Quitely) filled in.

Story 7: DESTINY  - Endless Nights

A Man walks in his garden reading a book . The man is blind .

The garden is a labyrinth with many paths around him .

There are many statues in the garden . Huge statues . They are moving extremely slowly that you can't realize their movement .

His way guide him to his home place .
A place full of chambers and corridors

The paintings of Destiny
remind to his brothers and his sisters .
( In the kingdom of the ETERNALS the wish and the fact
are so close , like a blade between them )

You will rove in the kingdom of your brothers
you will dream , you will despair , you will wish all ,
you will destroy , you will take pleasure
they will take pleasure from you
and in the end you will die .

But , ... You were the toy of Destiny , from the first page
and only HIM will read the end of your story
in a faraway future .

The book is very heavy .

His is chained in the book
or it's the book chained with Him ?
It's a book with a lot of pages .
No one can steal it from HIM . No one can donate it to someone else .

The book Includes your life . Your life with all the details .
All that happened to you .
All that will happen from now and then  .
Things that happened .
Things that you forgot .

All that has been done or will be done in anyone you have ever encountered.
To anyone who has ever known.
To all those who did not know ever
There , Where dreams are , stories and the exploits of the dead .

But the movements of atoms and galaxies are in the book, and are small differences he sees between them .

Everything is written in His book. Some day ΗΕ will lay down the book ,  when the book is finished, and then HE will follow that this is still unwritten

Destiny continues to walk
Holding a book
Inside the book is the whole universe .

Οι "South Of No North" σχηματίστηκαν στην Αθήνα και οι πρώτες πρόβες ξεκίνησαν το Νοέμβριο του '83, ενώ η πρώτη συναυλία έγινε στο Λύκειο της Γκράβας τον Μάρτιο του '84 μαζί με τους "Metro Decay", "Villa 21", "Yell-Ο-Yell" και "Art Of Parties". Μετά το κλείσιμο της εν λόγω εταιρείας, κυκλοφόρησαν το ομώνυμο "South Of No North" στην "Wipe Out".

The hands of Cain : The Only Sound ( 2009 )

Not available on CD . Vinyl Limited Edition

The Hands of Cain” were formed in 1983 in Athens, Greece, by the ex-members of the teenage punk-rock band (and one of the first of the Greek punk-rock scene), “Ausschwitss”.

The Hands Of Cain were Dimitris Chorianopoulos (vocals, bass), Spyros ‘S. Adam’ Floros (drums), Costas Papakitsos (synthesisers) and Dimitris Stamatiou (guitar) from Athens, Greece.
In 1983 the Hands Of Cain evolved from of one of the first groups of the Greek punk scene of the early 80’s called Ausschwitss when their music was gaining a darker shade and their lyrics were changing to English.

Unlike their former group, the Hands Of Cain had very little public exposure, but built their reputation amongst the lively Athenian dark wave/post punk scene of the time with a few live gigs in clubs like ‘Skylab’ and ‘Pegasus’.

They finally split up in November 1985, and although none of their recordings was ever released their fame lived on. An end was put to this local hidden secret when Dimitris ‘Profitis’ Petrou sent "Anna Logue Records" two tracks in Autumn 2007, “Two Steps to the End” and “The Dagger in Me”. Anna was blown away by those tracks and couldn’t believe they have remained unreleased.

Of course, this had to be changed. The quality of HOC’s song writing is amazing, these are just strong compositions, and without any doubt, this album will perfectly line up with the best ever dark wave/gothic albums being so close to Christian Death’s first recordings as well as the best songs by Bauhaus.

Their tracks are pure mid 80’s despair and melancholy, although back then HOC were not even aware of such gothic music movements, proving their creativity and originality. The material was (more or less) preserved on dusty 8mm reels and worn-out cassette tapes – it is thanks to Dave Hewson, who digitally transferred and restored these tracks, we owe you much gratitude, Dave – that these essential songs do not remain in total obscurity.

Prepare yourself for a milestone not only in Greek music history, but also in dark wave/gothic history!

IN A DARK CELL   Lyrics

A shadow on me ,

like a threaten of death
spinning around me , figures from a grave .

I recognize this shining , I'm sure I've seen these shapes

Don't let the darkness strangle me , don't let me fade away .
Seems like an endless ending , seems like a wait to see

Never racking , quite repressing, this dim light crept in .

I'm trying to see through your eyes , I want to enter your hell
Whispers of hatred ask silent cries.

In my dark cell .

V.A : Road Of The Gypsies ( L'Epopee Tzigane ) 1996

Road of the Gypsies is an indispensable first stop on any excursion into the world of Gypsy music. The two CDs contain 32 tracks from many of the greatest names in Gypsy music and cover the whole spectrum, from the Middle East through Romania, Hungary, and France and down to Spain. Eloquent liner notes detail the history, migration and cultural impact of this "invisible nation" and its music.

The impeccable music selections echo this theme, kicking off with the late Cameron, flamenco's greatest voice, singing the poetry of Federico Garcia Lorca, but accompanied by sitar.

Elsewhere Taraf de Haidouks (Romania), Charcoal Gypsies (Egypt), and Bratsch (France) illustrate the enormous variety in the genre, with its many subdivisions such as the rom, manouche, and flamenco styles, all very distinct.

Echoes of Django Reinhardt, himself a Gypsy, can also be heard in the French jazz guitar styles of Titi Winterstein. Gypsy music inspired Cervantes, Bartok, and even Beethoven and serves as an invisible thread in the quilt of European and Middle Eastern musical traditions. This is an astonishing glimpse of a culture carried in the musical brilliance of a forgotten people. ( Derek Rath )

        Romania

The singer Gabi Lunca was in Asphalt Tango's excellent series mining the Electrecord vaults cherry picks her recordings from the 60s and 70s. Four selections here have already appeared on the pioneering compilation Gypsy Queens (Network, 1999), but if you're new to her charms, this will be quite a revelation.
Lunca's rich, melismatic wail is less feral and idiosyncratic than that of her contemporary Romica Puceanu (the star of Vol. 2 of this series), but has its own silky beauty that sinks in nicely after a couple of plays. She's masterfully backed on accordion by husband Ion Onoriu, who echoes and answers her phrases, almost constantly trailing her like an attentive – perhaps even a little possessive – lover. Not all the other instrumentalists could be identified, such as the wonderful fiddler who introduces Da, Mama, Cu Biciu-n Mine! with a short but spectacular solo, or the double bass player booming away resonantly throughout.

As an adult he established himself as a musician adept on the darbuka drum, oud, saz, and tanbur, playing with artists as varied as the Kronos Quartet and Joe Zawinul, and playing everything from classical music to jazz to drum'n'bass.
