Descendents: Milo Goes To College 1982 + I Don't Want To Grow Up 1985

Descendents is an American punk rock band formed in 1977 in Manhattan Beach, California, by

guitarist Frank Navetta, bassist Tony Lombardo and drummer Bill Stevenson as a power-pop/surf punk band. In 1979, they enlisted Stevenson's school friend Milo Aukerman as a singer, and reappeared as a melodic hardcore punk band, becoming a major player in the hardcore scene developing in Los Angeles at the time.

They have released eight studio albums, three live albums, three compilation albums, and four EPs.

Since 1986, the band's lineup has consisted of Aukerman, Stevenson, guitarist Stephen Egerton, and bassist Karl Alvarez. They gradually emerged as one of the most enduring and adored punk bands of their time. While the band seemingly celebrated their own immaturity in their most iconic music, they also found a way to grow up and continue to make music that pleased themselves and their fans well past 2020.

1982's Milo Goes to College was their first and most enduring masterpiece, 2004's Cool to be You

was a strong, lively reunion effort, and 2021's 9th & Walnut looked back to their earliest days, revisiting a handful of forgotten songs. For the recording of their debut album Milo Goes to College in June 1982, the band worked at Total Access Recording in Redondo Beach, California, with Spot, who had also engineered and produced the Fat EP. While still short and fast, the songs on Milo Goes to College were also melodic.

Aukerman later reflected: "It's interesting: we started very melodic, then moved to hardcore, but melded

the two at a certain point and became melodic hardcore." The album's title and cover illustration referenced Aukerman's departure from the band to study biology at the University of California, San Diego. The illustration was done by Jeff Atkinson, based on earlier caricatures by a high school classmate of Aukerman's named Roger Deuerlein, who had drawn comic strips and posters depicting Aukerman as the class nerd.

In 1985, the group re-formed, with SWA alum Ray Cooper replacing Navetta on guitar; after the release

of the more pop-flavored album I Don't Want to Grow Up, ex-Anti bassist Doug Carrion assumed Lombardo's duties. A sunnier perspective informed 1986's Enjoy!, as evidenced by the inclusion of a cover of the Beach Boys' "Wendy," but after 1987's All, the group split again; after Stevenson formed a new group, also dubbed All, the only Descendents products to appear for a number of years were a pair of live releases, 1987's Liveage! and 1989's Hallraker.

Somewhat surprisingly, Auckerman and Stevenson re-formed the Descendents in 1996 with All bassist

Karl Alvarez and guitarist Stephen Egerton; in addition to mounting a tour, the group recorded a new album, Everything Sucks. Following the tour, Auckerman once again returned to his life in the chem lab until 2004 when the guys were back with two new releases, both issued on Fat Wreck -- February brought the EP 'Merican, and the full-length Cool to Be You followed a month later.

For the following decade, they would remain relatively quiet, save for a few significant events. In 2008, founding guitarist Frank Navetta unexpectedly passed away. The band also reunited for a few gigs in

2010, but it wasn't permanent.  In 2020  the band began reworking material recorded in 2002 with Bill Stevenson, Frank Navetta, and Tony Lombardo, in which they put to tape fifteen songs they had written between in 1980 but had never released. With Auckerman recording new vocal tracks for the material, these unique recordings from the "classic" Descendents lineup were issued by Epitaph Records in July 2021 on the LP 9th & Walnut, named for the address of their first rehearsal space.

DESCENDENTS - MILO GOES TO COLEGE 1982

Milo Goes to College is the debut studio album by the American punk rock band Descendents, released on September 4, 1982 through New Alliance Records. The playing of the core band is even better than

before, never mistaking increased skill with needing to show off; the Lombardo/Stevenson rhythm section is in perfect sync, while Navetta provides the corrosive power. Add in Aukerman's in-your-face hilarity and f*ck-off stance, and it's punk rock that wears both its adolescence and brains on its sleeve. The album's mix of fast and aggressive hardcore punk with melody and semi-ironic love songs led to it being considered one of the most significant albums of the early 1980s southern California hardcore movement.

I WANT TO BE A BEAR LYRICS

Got your jourdache jeans
Got your pretty long hair
Dinner and a movie powder your nose
Take their honey for lay

Just like pay
You're just a human being on this planet
You're just flesh and blood like all the rest
You'll get old and have a wrinkled ass

Humans are ses I want to be a bear
I want to shit in the woods
In my cave hunt my prey
Could be you, I want to have food

Burgers not berries
Ladies are women but women are ladies
Got a baited hook you are calling it your cherry
You wanna settle down and you wanna get married

I don't want to smell your muff

PARENTS LYRICS

Parents, why won't they shut up
Parents, they're so fucked up
They treat me like a tool
They take me for a fool

Parents, why won't they shut up?
Parents, they're so fucked up
Oh they're so fucking dim
They look into the past
For future reference

Parents, why won't they shut up?
Parents, they're so fucked up
They don't even know I'm a boy
They treat me like a toy
But little do they know
That one day I'll explode

I'm a boy and not a toy
I will kill and I'll destroy
I'm a boy and not a toy
I will kill and I will destroy

Parents, parents, parents
They don't even know I'm a boy
They treat me like a toy
But little do they know
That one day I'll explode

I'm a boy and not a toy
I will kill and I'll destroy
I'm a boy and not a toy
I will kill and I will destroy

DESCENDENTS - I DON'T WANT TO GROW UP 1985

I Don't Want to Grow Up is the second studio album by the American punk rock band the Descendents, released in 1985 through New Alliance Records. It marked the end of a two-year hiatus for the band,

during which singer Milo Aukerman had attended college and drummer Bill Stevenson had joined Black Flag. I Don't Want to Grow Up was the first of two albums the Descendents recorded with guitarist Ray Cooper, and their last with original bassist Tony Lombardo, who quit the group because he did not want to go on tour. Though recorded quickly and without much rehearsal time, I Don't Want to Grow Up received positive reviews from critics, who praised its catchy songs, strong melodies, and pop-influenced love songs.

I DON'T WANT TO GROW UP LYRICS

I don't want to grow up
I don't want to grow up

If growing up means being like you
Then I don't want to be like you
Recycled trash
It's deja vu

I don't want to grow up
I don't want to grow up

You're grown up told what to do
Your suit can't hide the truth
You're a fool
And I refuse to be like you

I don't want to grow up

MY WORLD LYRICS

Stop knocka-knocka-knocking
Stop knocka-knocka-knocking
Stop knocking
Stop it

Went to the No Nukes rally
The Don Quixotes made me feel silly
Went to the punk rock show
Nobody that I know did go
Went to my university
Boys and girls dress up and look pretty
Went to the party last night
I was there, but it was really out of sight

My world is my mind
I'm locking myself inside
People, they can't get in
Oh I have no use for them

Well I just came from my girl's bed
Don't think I'll ever forget what she said
I tried to show her my song
She laughed and said the chords were all wrong
Went out to look at the moon
Blood red and the water was too
Just ran away from her house
Not another word from her pretty little mouth

My world is my mind
I'm locking myself inside
People, they can't get in
Oh I have no use for them
Not my world

So stop koncka-knocka-knocking
Stop knocka-knocka-knocking
Oh stop knocking
Stop it

Stop knocka-knocka-knocking
Stop knocka-knocka-knocking
Stop knocking
Stop it

Well let me tell you what I did
I went to the toilet and sat down
There was no one else around
I went inside my closet
Took my guitar and strummed upon it
Went out to run 10 miles
Sifted through my personal files
Went to my desk to study
There's no world, no love, nobody but me
And that's the way it's gonna be yeah
That's the way it's gonna be yeah
That's the way it's gonna be cuz'
My world is my mind
I'm locking myself inside
People, they can't get in
Oh I have no use for them
Not my world

So stop koncka-knocka-knocking
Stop knocka-knocka-knocking
Stop knocking
Stop it
Knocking on my world

Circle Jerks: Group Sex 1980 + Wild In The Streets 1982

Circle Jerks (stylized as Ciʀcle JƎʀᴋs) are an American hardcore punk band, formed in 1979 in Los Angeles, California. The group was founded by former Black Flag vocalist Keith Morris and Redd Kross guitarist Greg Hetson.

Lead vocalist Keith Morris was an original member of Black Flag, co-founding the band with

guitarist Greg Ginn and recording the Nervous Breakdown EP with them before suddenly departing the group in December 1979. Morris formed Circle Jerks as the Bedwetters along with guitarist Greg Hetson, bassist Roger Rogerson (a classically-trained guitarist) and drummer Lucky Lehrer (a jazz-trained drummer). Lehrer did not like the name the Bedwetters, so Morris looked through a dictionary of slang words and renamed the band the Circle Jerks.

The band's first recordings took place in spring 1980, including the original version of "Wild in the Streets", which appeared on Posh Boy's first Rodney on the ROQ compilation. In July of that year, the

band recorded their debut studio album, Group Sex, which was released in October 1980 on the Frontier Records label; its 14 songs totaled just 15 minutes. The album featured several songs that Morris had written while in Black Flag. That same year, the group was one of several California punk bands to be immortalized in the Penelope Spheeris documentary The Decline of Western Civilization; live versions of five songs from Group Sex appeared on the movie's soundtrack.

Their second LP, 1982's Wild in the Streets, continued the intensity while injecting a humorous slant into the music by covering '60s pop hits "Just Like Me"/"Put a Little Love in Your Heart," applied with their slamdancing aggression. The joke was expanded on Golden Shower of Hits, their third album,

released in 1983. The second time around they tackled "Along Comes Mary," "Afternoon Delight," "Having My Baby," and "Love Will Keep Us Together." Golden Shower also marked the incorporation of a few longer songs that hovered around the three-minute mark, including "Under the Gun," "High Price on Our Heads," and "Rats of Reality." At this point the band took a two-year break, which found Hetson joining the newly formed Bad Religion, taking on guitar duties for both bands well into the next decade.

In 1985 the Circle Jerks returned with two new bandmembers, Keith Clark on drums and bassist Zander

Schloss, releasing the metal-tinged Wonderful album on the Combat label. By 1996 the years of rough touring caught up with the bandmembers and once again they went on hiatus. Morris in particular had been plagued by serious health problems, including a back injury that forced him to wear a brace, colon and stomach problems including appendicitis, and a 1999 diagnosis of adult onset diabetes.

Since Morris had no health insurance, benefits were held to curtail his enormous medical bills, allowing the now dreadlocked lead singer to begin recuperating. In 2003 Morris was well enough to play live gigs with his spoken word jazz-punk ensemble Midget Handjob, and also tour with the Circle Jerks and the Rollins Band.

To date, Circle Jerks have released six studio albums, one compilation, a live album and a live DVD. Their debut album, Group Sex (1980), is considered a landmark of the hardcore genre.

The band has broken up and re-formed several times, sometimes with different bassists and/or drummers. They disbanded for the first time after the release of their fifth album VI (1987), allowing Hetson to focus on Bad Religion (where he had been a member from 1984 to 2013) full-time. The Circle Jerks first reunited in 1994 and released their sixth and last studio album to date, Oddities, Abnormalities and Curiosities, the following year before separating for the second time.

The band reunited for the second time in 2001 and spent the next ten years performing live periodically;

this reunion lasted for only one new song, "I'm Gonna Live", which was released on their MySpace profile in 2007. Tensions among its members and failed attempts to record the follow-up to Oddities, Abnormalities and Curiosities resulted in the Circle Jerks breaking up yet again in 2011. However, the band announced in November 2019 that they will reunite in 2020 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Group Sex with live shows.

On November 22, 2019, it was announced that the Circle Jerks were going to reunite in 2020 for a

number of shows by celebrating the 40th anniversary of their debut album Group Sex, including that year's Punk Rock Bowling. Then COVID-19 struck and caused performances to be postponed until 2021. Three-fourths of the final lineup – Keith Morris, guitarist Greg Hetson, bassist Zander Schloss – will be involved in the reunion.

On July 15th 2021 it was announced that former Queens of the Stone Age and Danzig drummer Joey Castillo would be joining the Circle Jerks on drums.
Many groups and artists have cited Circle Jerks as an influence, including Flea, Anti-Flag, Dropkick Murphys, the Offspring and Pennywise.

LIVE FAST DIE YOUNG  LYRICS

I don't wanna live
To be thirty-four
I don't wanna die
In a nuclear war

Go on out
Get some more
Go on out
To the bar, the market or the liquor store

I don't wanna live
To be forty-three
I don't like
What I see going on around me

Go on out
Get some more
Go on out
Get fucked up and pass out on the floor

Go on out
Get some more
Go on out
To your favorite liquor store

Go on out
Don't worry about it no more
Go on out
Get fucked up on the floor

I don't wanna live
To be fifty-seven
I'm living in Hell
Is there a Heaven?

Misfits: 4 CD Box Set

The Misfits are an American horror-themed punk rock band from Lodi, New Jersey. Formed in early 1977, they took the band name from Marilyn Monroe's last film and in fact, thanked the cast of the movie on the back of their first record. The founding members were: Glenn Danzig on vocals and

electric piano, Jerry Caiafa (Jerry Only) on bass, and Manny on drums. Their first release on their own label, Blank Records, didn't reflect the characteristic anger and rebellion of most "punk" records, but instead a more brooding and sinister, yet romantic side lingering beneath. Following the single, Danzig and Only recruited a new drummer and added a guitar player and pursued the horror-based punk rock direction that they are known for. Danzig and Only presided over several line up changes, eventually culminating with Jerry's younger brother, Paul (aka Doyle) becoming the band's permanent guitarist.

They are often recognized as the progenitors of the horror punk subgenre, blending punk and other

musical influences with horror film themes and imagery. The group was founded in 1977 in Lodi, New Jersey, by vocalist, songwriter and keyboardist Glenn Danzig, and drummer Manny Martínez. Jerry Only joined on bass guitar shortly after. Over the next six years, membership would change frequently with Danzig and Only being the only consistent members.

Danzig's first recruit was drummer Manny Martínez, who later saw a bass guitar in the back of Jerry

Caiafa's car parked at his neighbor's house. Caiafa had recently received the bass as a Christmas gift, and when Martinez invited him to join the band, Caiafa accepted despite having only practiced his instrument for two months. Caiafa and Danzig would remain the only consistent members of the Misfits until the group's dissolution in 1983.

The trio of Danzig, Martínez, and Caiafa rehearsed for three months without a guitarist, using Danzig's

electric piano to provide the songs' rhythm. They recorded their first single, Cough/Cool, which they released through their own label Blank Records in August 1977. Caiafa's surname was misspelled on the record's sleeve, prompting him to insist that in the future he be credited as "Jerry, only Jerry". "Jerry Only" became his pseudonym for the rest of his career. The band played their first two performances at CBGB in New York City, followed by other local performances over the following two months.

In August 1977, guitarist Frank Licata joined the band under the pseudonym Franché Coma, allowing Danzig to phase out the electric piano and focus on singing while pushing the band's sound in a punk

rock direction. Danzig and Only deemed Martínez unreliable and replaced him with drummer Jim Catania who went by the nickname Mr. Jim. The band found a recording opportunity when Mercury Records wished to use the name Blank Records for one of its subdivisions and offered Danzig thirty hours of studio time in exchange for rights to the name. Danzig accepted, and in January 1978 the Misfits entered a New York recording studio to record 17 songs, 14 of which were mixed for the proposed Static Age album.

During this time period, they released several EPs and singles, and with Only's brother Doyle as guitarist, the albums Walk Among Us (1982) and Earth A.D./Wolfs Blood (1983), both considered touchstones of the early-1980s hardcore punk movement.

The Misfits disbanded in 1983, and Glenn Danzig went on to form Samhain and then Danzig. Several

albums of reissued and previously unreleased material were issued after the group's dissolution, and their music later became influential to punk rock, heavy metal, and alternative rock. After a series of legal battles with Danzig, Only and Doyle regained the rights to record and perform as the Misfits.

They formed a new version of the band in 1995 with singer Michale Graves and drummer Dr. Chud.

This incarnation of Misfits had more of a heavy metal sound, and released the albums American Psycho (1997) and Famous Monsters (1999) before dissolving in 2000. Jerry Only then took over lead vocals and recruited former Black Flag guitarist Dez Cadena and former Ramones drummer Marky Ramone for a Misfits 25th anniversary tour.

In September 2016, for the first time in 33 years, Danzig, Only, and Doyle reunited for two headlining

shows as the Original Misfits at that year's edition of Riot Fest, along with drummer Dave Lombardo and second guitarist Acey Slade. The Original Misfits lineup continued performing sporadically through 2019.

[ Jay Canes 2000 May 9, 2021

The definitive collection for Danzig era Misfits material. The highlight of this set is the "Sessions" disc (disc 3) which includes 30 tracks which are either long out of print 7in versions or previously unreleased versions of classic Misfits tracks. It is a must have for serious Misfits collectors.

In addition to the exclusive material, this set inlcudes all of the Danzig era albums & tracks - remastered. The only exceptions being the "Walk Among Us" album which could not be included

because it is under license to Warner Bros. Luckily, most casual Misfits fans already have this album and if not, you should. The "Walk Among Us" disc (in its case) even fits perfectly inside the coffin box - almost as if it were made to fit (I'm not sure if it does in the limited edition box). The only other outstanding Danzig era material are the 3 bonus tracks released on the "Static Age" stand alone CD in 1997.

You might be wondering why Caroline Records would not to include the 3 bonus tracks in this box set since it does include the "Static Age" album (disc 4). Well they did not do it to rip you off. The version

of "Static Age" included in this box is the original 1978 mix of the album (including the original static intro & outro tracks). Although recorded in 1978 at the Static Age sessions, "She", "Spinal Remains", & "In The Doorway" were never mixed. Not many people realize this but when Caroline Records released "Static Age" separately in 1997 after it made its debut 8n this box, they remixed the album and in tbe process were able to finally mix those 3 tracks.

Although the box omits those songs, it does include the original 1978 mix. I have both versions and I

prefer the original mix heard in the box set. The remix lowers the bass and raises Glenn's vocals too much IMHO. These recordings of "She" & "Spinal Remains" are included elsewhere in the box in (yet another) remixed form. But if you want "In The Doorway" or you are just a diehard completist (like myself), you will need to purchase "Static Age" separately (or just track the 3 songs down online).

Aside from "Walk Among Us" & the 3 aforementioned tracks (all of which can be found easily

elsewhere) this box set has all of the Danzig era material - remastered. When you factor in the 30 tracks which are exclusive to this set (including the rare Misfits version of "Spook City U.S.A."), it puts this "coffin" a notch above most box sets and makes it well worth the price.]

DIE, DIE MY DARLING  LYRICS

Die, die, die my darling
Don't utter a single word
Die, die, die my darling
Just shut your pretty mouth

I'll be seeing you again
I'll be seeing you in Hell
Don't try to be a baby
Your future's in an oblong box, yeah

Don't try to be a baby
Should have seen it a-comin' on
Don't try to be a baby
I don't know it was in your power

Don't try to be a baby
Dead-end girl for a dead-end guy
Don't try to be a baby
Now your life drains on the floor

Don't try to be a baby
Die, die, die my darling
Don't utter a single word
Die, die, die my darling

Just shut your pretty mouth
I'll be seeing you again
I'll be seeing you in Hell
Don't try to be a baby

Your future is in an oblong box
Don't try to be a baby
Should have seen the end a-comin' on, a-comin'
Don't try to be a baby

I don't know it was in your power
Don't try to be a baby
Dead-end girl for a dead-end guy
Don't try to be a baby

Now your life drains on the floor
Don't try to be a baby
Die, die, die my darling
Don't utter a single word

Die, die, die my darling
Shut your pretty mouth
I'll be seeing you again
I'll be seeing you in Hell

Don't try to be a baby
Die, die, die my darling
Don't try to be a baby
Die, die, die my darling

Die, die, die my darling
Die, die, die my darling
Die, die, die, die, die, die

MOMMY, CAN I GO OUT AND KILL TONIGHT?   LYRICS

Singled out the kids who are mean to me
Get straight A's but they still make fun
I don't give a-
I'll laugh last
Stayed in every night

Do my homework so I'll be smart
Girls all say I'm a little fuck
Mommy I'm a good boy
Mommy I'm a fuckin' savior
Mommy I'm alive

Mommy, can I go out and kill tonight

Rip the veins from human necks
Until they're wet with life
Razor-blades love teenage flesh
An epidermoty
I'll bring back a souvenir
For it's my mommy's dream
Can I go out and kill tonight, kill tonight
Killed a girl on lovers' lane
I kept her toes and teeth
Every night I stalk around until I find my keep
I'll bring back a souvenir
For it's my mommy's dream

Can I go out and kill tonight, kill tonight

Killed a girl on lover's lane
I kept her toes and teeth
Every night I stalk around until I find my keep
I'll bring back a souvenir
For it's my mommy's dream

Can I go out and kill tonight, kill tonight,
Kill tonight, kill tonight, kill tonight, kill tonight, kill tonight, kill tonight
Can I go out and kill tonight, kill tonight
Kill tonight, kill tonight, kill tonight, kill tonight, kill tonight, kill tonight

Mommy!

STATIC AGE (Recorded 1978)  (1996)

Static Age is an album by the American horror punk band Misfits, recorded in 1978. Although it was the first album the band ever recorded, it was not released in its entirety until 1996. In August 1977 The Misfits released their debut single "Cough/Cool" on Blank Records, a label operated by the band's lead vocalist Glenn Danzig. Several months later Mercury Records issued a Pere Ubu record on their own Blank Records imprint, unaware that Danzig held a trademark on the name. The parties came to a settlement, with Danzig accepting thirty hours of studio time for his band in exchange for the rights to the Blank Records name. In January and February 1978 the Misfits, then consisting of Danzig, guitarist Franché Coma, bassist Jerry Only, and drummer Mr. Jim, recorded seventeen songs at C.I. Recordings in New York City with engineer and producer Dave Achelis. Due to time constraints, the band recorded the songs live in the studio with only a few takes and very few overdubs. Ultimately fourteen of the seventeen tracks produced during the sessions were assembled for the Misfits' anticipated debut album, to be titled Static Age.
