Theatre of Hate were a post-punk band formed in Britain in 1980.

Led by singer-songwriter and ex-member of punk band The Pack, Kirk Brandon, the original group also consisted of: guitarist Steve Guthrie, bassist Stan Stammers (The Straps/Epileptics), saxophonist John Lennard and drummer Luke Rendle from Crisis/The Straps.

In 1980, the Pack had evolved into Theatre of Hate, with Luke Rendle replacing Walker on drums, Stan Stammers joining on bass, Steve Guthrie on guitar and John 'Boy' Lennard on sax (the Werners joined the Straps, who Stammers had previously played for). The first Theatre of Hate release was the "Original Sin" single in November 1980, which reached #5 on the UK Indie Chart.
Theatre of Hate garnered much early attention as a live act and made their album debut in 1981 with the concert LP He Who Dares Wins Live at the Warehouse Leeds. Shortly after the album's release however, Steve Guthrie left the band.

Another concert recording, Live at the Lyceum followed, and in August 1981 Theatre of Hate entered the studio with producer Mick Jones of The Clash to record their first non-live album debut, Westworld, which was released on February 19 1982 and went on to reach the UK Top 20.

Shortly after the album was recorded new guitarist Billy Duffy (formerly of The Nosebleeds) joined the band and a little later drummer Luke Rendle was replaced by Nigel Preston. The album reached #17 in the UK Albums Chart, and also spawned the Top 40 single "Do You Believe in the Westworld".

In February 1982, Theatre of Hate released another live album entitled He Who Dares Wins: Live in Berlin recorded in September 1981, and in April 1982 Billy Duffy left the band to join Death Cult, the band continuing for a short time before splitting up later that year. Demos for the unreleased second studio album were released as Ten Years After in 1993.

Brandon went on to front Spear of Destiny with bassist Stammers. A post break-up compilation album Revolution spent three weeks in the UK Albums Chart, peaking at #67.

In 1991 Theatre of Hate reformed for the Return to 8 tour which included some of the original band members, these included Brandon, Stammers and Lennard, with the addition of Pete Barnacle on drums and Mark 'Gemini' Thwaite on guitar.

In July/August 1994 Brandon, Stammers, John McNutt and Art Smith went into Mix-O. Lydian Studio, Boonton, New Jersey with Brad Morrision to record a new album under the Theatre of Hate banner. Retribution was not released until early 1996 in both the U.S. and UK.

To coincide with Westworld's 25th anniversary, Theatre of Hate reformed for a week-long tour culminating at the Carling Academy Islington on 29 April 2007. Of the original line-up, only Stammers was unavailable, due to conflicting schedules and family commitments in the U.S. where he now lives. Replacing him was Craig Adams, former bassist with The Cult, The Sisters of Mercy and The Mission, joining Brandon, Guthrie, Lennard, and Rendle for the reunion.

Rave music may either refer to the late 1980s/early 1990s genres of breakbeat, acid, techno and hardcore techno, which were the first genres of music to be played at rave parties, or to any other genre of electronic dance music (EDM) that may be played at a rave.
The genre "rave", also known as hardcore by early ravers, first appeared amongst the UK "acid" movement during the late 1980s at warehouse parties and other underground venues, as well as on UK pirate radio stations.

The genre would develop into oldschool hardcore, which lead onto newer forms of rave music such as drum and bass and 2-step, as well as other hardcore techno genres, such as gabber, hardstyle and happy hardcore. Rave music is usually presented in a DJ mix set, although live performances are not uncommon.

Christof was raised in a classical musician family, though he never had training in music or electronic. First, he got involved in various new wave bands where he was the singer and the programmer. One day, he discovered the Techno music sound, and that changed his musical orientation. Also raised in a family of musicians, Frederic Holyszewski began his musical studies at the age of five, learning Transverse flute and piano. During his teenage years, he found inspiration in the electronic music of the day, including Jean Michel Jarre, Depeche Mode, Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Simple Minds. He bought his first synthesizer funded by working at night in bars as a pianist. After the split of his first rock band Vision Quest, in 1990, he started to work on his own with the help of computers.

Christof and Frederic met at a French Rave party and subsequently formed the psychedelic trance act Transwave in September 1994. Three months later, the first Transwave release (Datura EP) was launched on the small French label, Transpact. Over the following two years, Transwave released three albums (Hypnorhythm, 1995, Helium, 1996, Phototropic, 1996) and toured around the world, experiencing great success in the psychedelic trance underground and scoring an international trance hit with their track, "Land of Freedom." The group split after the D-mention party in Paris in May 1997. Christof and Frederic also released an EP called "Anjuna" under the name Kaledoid in 1996.

Simon Posford (born 28 October 1971), better known by his stage name Hallucinogen is an English electronic musician, specializing in psychedelic trance music. His first studio album, Twisted, released in 1995, is considered one of the most influential albums in the genre. He has toured India several times.
His second album, The Lone Deranger, was released in 1997 A third album, In Dub, was released in 2002.
He is also the founder of the label Twisted Records and works in the electronic duos Younger Brother and Shpongle. Younger Brother initially began as a side project of Posford and Benji Vaughan and represented a transition away from previous projects which emphasized a more synthesized style.

3. JUNOR REACTOR

Juno Reactor is a musical and performing group known for their cinematic fusion of electronic, global
influences, and orchestral symphonic approach, collaborating with composer Don Davis and composing for the musical score of The Matrix. Central to the project is Ben Watkins and his collaborations with a constantly changing ensemble of musicians from across the world. This ensemble has included Mabi Thobejane, Amampondo, Steve Stevens, Eduardo Niebla, Greg Ellis, Taz Alexander, Sugizo, Budgie (drummer) and recently Hamsika Iyer and Maggie Hikri.

4. THE INFINITY PROJECT

5. BASSLINE BABY

6. PRANA

7. SECTION X

8. COSMOSIS

UK Psychedelic / Goa Trance act. When Jeremy Van Kampen left in 1997 to concentrate on the Laughing
Buddha project, Cosmosis became Bill Halsey's solo project - he credits himself as 'Bilbo Bagginz' on some of his releases. Cosmosis started as two men group, and that's the period when they were producing pure Goa Trance. Cosmology (1996) is definitely one of the best albums released around that time, but when you compare this release with everything that came after Jeremy Van Kampen left the group, it's obvious that project took another direction after that.

9. BORGIA

10. SPEEDY J

Jochem George Paap (born 14/02/1969 in Rotterdam), known by his stage name Speedy J, is a Dutch electronic music producer based in the city of Rotterdam. His breakthrough came with the release in 1992 of the minimal techno track Pullover. Subsequently his material became more mellow as he moved away from the hardcore sounds that were then becoming popular in Belgium and the Netherlands.

A Flock Of Seagulls : A Flock of Seagulls 1982

A Flock of Seagulls are an English new wave and synthpop band originally formed in 1980 in Liverpool by Michael "Mike" Score (keyboards, vocals) and his brother Alister "Ali" James Score (drums); with their most famous line-up consisting of the Score brothers along with Francis Lee "Frank" Maudsley (bass) and Paul Reynolds (guitar).

In fact he got the name of the band from the stranglers track - toiler on the sea apparently and his hair cutting skills were down to the fact that he use to be a hairdresser.
That coiffured "seagull" haircut (still parodied to this day...see chandler in the tv show friends) was a trademark feature of the 80s alongside paul kings cockatoo haircut in the band king and the mullets of nick kershaw and paul young!

The group had a string of international hit singles including "I Ran (So Far Away)" (1982), "Space Age Love Song" (1982), "Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You)" (1982), and "The More You Live, the More You Love" (1984). They became notable in the 1980s for their video for "I Ran (So Far Away)". The band won a Grammy Award in 1983.

A Flock of Seagulls is the eponymous debut  and featured the international hit single "I Ran (So Far Away)", which reached the Top 10 in the US and New Zealand, as well as No. 1 in Australia. The song "Space Age Love Song" also managed to score radio play. On the success of the singles, the album reached No. 10 in the US.

The Liverpool quintet A Flock of Seagulls first gained attention in the dance clubs with "Telecommunication," included on this debut release.

Their debut album, released April 1982.

The kinetic "I Ran (So Far Away)" became a video staple and a Top Ten radio hit. "A Space Age Love Song," with its synthesizer washes and echo-laden guitar, also managed to score at radio.

The band, and particularly this album, were influential during the 1980s, for their image and also for their production techniques, which at one point garnered the respect of record producer Phil Spector, who in the 1980s called the album "phenomenal." . The album track "D.N.A." won a Grammy Award in 1983 for Best Rock Instrumental Performance.

The Shadows : 20 Golden Greats 1977

Not available on CD

The Shadows were an English instrumental rock group, and were Cliff Richard's backing band from 1958 to 1968, (though they have collaborated again on numerous reunion tours).

The Shadows have placed 69 UK charted singles from the 1950s to the 2000s, 35 credited to the Shadows and 34 to Cliff Richard and the Shadows. The group, who were in the forefront of the UK beat-group boom, were the first backing band to emerge as stars. As pioneers of the four-member instrumental format, the band consisted of lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bass guitar and drums. Their range covers pop, rock, surf rock and ballads with a jazz influence.

20 Golden Greats is a compilation album by UK band The Shadows. It was released in 1977. The album was in UK charts for 43 weeks, where it gained number 1 position for 6 weeks

Without a single misplaced footstep in sight, 20 Golden Greats soared effortlessly to the top of the U.K. chart, becoming the Shadows first album chart-topper since their sophomore album, back in 1962. It was a deserved triumph  and, perhaps, a predictable one, even at the height of punk rock.

A straightforward run through the Shadows' early to mid-1960s singles, the peerless sequence which stretched from "Apache" in 1960 to "The Rise and Fall of Flingel Bunt" in 1964, consumes 15 of the album's 20 tracks; the remainder of the set then cherry picks the next four years to round up the lesser-heard, but equally laudable "Maroc 7," "Stingray," "The War Lord," "Genie With the Light Brown Lamp," and "A Place in the Sun.

" It's a dynamic collection, then, rounding up the 20 most quintessential Shadows hits, as opposed to the 20 most successful, the 20 best-known, or whatever other criteria such compilations like to be guided by. The fact that those other standards are almost automatically encompassed by its contents simply confirms the music's immortality. The chart success was merely the icing on the cake.
