Morrison Hotel: Graphic Novel By Leah Moore, Z2 Comics and The Doors

Leah Moore (born 4 February 1978) is a British comic book writer and columnist. The daughter of comics writer Alan Moore, she frequently collaborates with her husband, writer John Reppion, as Moore & Reppion.
Moore began writing for comics with stories for America's Best Comics in 2002.

Together, Moore & Reppion have scripted comics and graphic novels for the likes of 2000 AD, Channel 4 Education, Dark Horse, DC Comics, Dynamite Entertainment, Electricomics, IDW, and Self Made Hero. Moore & Reppion were consulting writers for some of the mysteries featured in Frogwares Games multi platform adventure Sherlock Holmes - Crimes & Punishments, 2014.

Moore was the Project Manager and a contributing editor for the digital comics publishing and reading platform Electricomics from 2013 to 2016.

Moore has written for Dynamite Entertainment (Gail Simone's Swords of Sorrow, Red Sonja), Heavy Metal, 2000 AD (Summer Special 2018), and Shelly Bond's Black Crown Publishing (Femme Magnifique, Black Crown Quarterly).

Leah Moore has written and co-written a long list of comics including Conspiracy of Ravens, Sway and Swords of Sorrow; characters like Doctor Who, Sherlock Holmes and Dracula; and publications including 2000 AD and Heavy Metal.

She has also written columns and articles for Lifetime TV online, The Big Issue, and Comic Heroes magazine.

The Doors’ renowned Morrison Hotel recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, and the band’s surviving members have collaborated to transform the album into an anthological graphic novel of the same name. The novel was written by Leah Moore, a columnist and writer whose father, comics legend Alan Moore, penned acclaimed works including (but by no means limited to) Watchmen and V for Vendetta.

The pages centered around the band’s blissful, ambient “Indian Summer” are available to preview exclusively at Paste today. “Indian Summer” is illustrated by Jill Thompson, noted for her work on The Sandman, Beasts of Burden and her own Scary Godmother series.

It’s more than simply comics adaptations of the album’s tracks; the book attempts to capture a sense of the band  at this moment and the state of the country and the culture unfolding around them as they worked.

The book also manages to show what Moore does so well and makes look so easy.
Each chapter of the book is drawn by a different artist – which includes Colleen Doran, Ryan Kelly, Michael Avon Oeming, Marguerite Sauvage, John K. Snyder III and Jill Thompson – which shows not just Moore’s skill at collaborating with and writing for artists, but her masterful touch at balancing tones and approaches and styles, so that the book never feels like an anthology of disparate stories, but a book seeking to capture the music, its creation and the world around it in a striking way.

The Morrison Hotel anthology written by Leah Moore, in collaboration with the surviving members of the legendary rock band and drawn by artists from around the comic book world, will weave the band's influence into some of the lore that led to their status as the architects of counterculture, influencing artists, poets, and outsiders for generations to come, set against the backdrop of the close of the free spirit of the 1960s into the tumultuous 1970s. A decade in which women, African Americans, Native Americans, gays, lesbians and other marginalized people continued their fight for equality, and many Americans joined the protest against the ongoing war in Vietnam.

Το πέμπτο στούντιο άλμπουμ του συγκροτήματος The Doors ενέπνευσε την graphic novel της συγγραφέα Leah Moore, κόρη του Alan Moore – του δημιουργού των κόμικς Watchmen, V For Vendetta, The Ballad Of Halo Jones και Swamp Thing μεταξύ άλλων.

THE DOORS MORRISON HOTEL

Έχει αυτή τη μυθική ιστορία που συνοδεύει τη φωτογράφιση του συγκροτήματος από τον Hendry Diltz για το εξώφυλλο του «Morrison Hotel», έχει τις ιστορίες και τις σκέψεις του Τζιμ Μόρισον και των υπολοίπων μελών του σχήματος που έγιναν 11 τραγούδια: από τη βόλτα του frontman της μπάντας με την κοπέλα του, Πάμελα Κούρσον, που «γέννησε» το στίχο «Keep your eyes on the road, your hands up on the wheel» του «Roadhouse Blues» μέχρι την κριτική θέαση στην επιδίωξη του αμερικανικού ονείρου που απασχόλησε το «Waiting For The Sun».
