The Kundalini Genie: Lysergic Fumes

The Kundalini Genie are a four-piece psychedelic band from Glasgow, Scotland Formed in early 2017,

mainly influenced by 60's psychedelia, indian classical music and modern psych...with powerful, primal drum beats, deep warrior bass, distorted rhythm guitar, and jangly, reverb'd up lead guitar and vocals, The Kundalini Genie are a psychedelic bombshell of notes and sounds. Traveling through the past with influences from the early Brian Jonestown Massacre recordings on their pedals, the band's debut album it’s a psych garage lover’s album of unbeatable reverb sounds with a  strong fuzzy aesthetic delivering the sound of a psych trip not to be missed.

Emerging from the nether regions of Glasgow, The Kundalini Genie has been making waves worldwide

by conjuring a cosmic melange of dreamy psychedelia and soundscapes that weave droning hypnotic fuzz-rock augmented by 60’s British Invasion-inspired melodies with meditative sitar. Their expansive chorus of voices and droning backdrop sets the stage for a phantasmagorical trip across the cosmos. Tapping into the intense space-gaze elements of Spiritualized, Kula Shaker, The Dandy Warhols, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and Swervedriver, their sauntering, hypnotic guitars and sitar steer the ship of the subconscious into a benevolent, Elysian flow.

The band started as the outlet of multi-instrumentalist Robbie Wilson, but have grown into a fully fledged group, making a reputation as purveyors of the fuzziest of psychedelic pop-rock. When it was

just Wilson on his own KG took their cues from the distorted shoegaze of The Brian Jonestown Massacre and the zanier elements of Captain Beefheart, but more melody and hooks have been introduced over the years as the band’s skills have developed. There’s more texture and nuance, but also occasionally a little less oomph than you feel Wilson may’ve added back in the day. As long as they maintain this exploratory bent The Kundalini Genie are sure to keep making great jams, even if there’s going to be a few duds along the way.

With their shows, The Kundalini Genie has mesmerized audiences with their hypnotic psychedelic aural and visual live experience, while sharing the stage with artists such as The Brian Jonestown Massacre,

The Warlocks, The Underground Youth, The Myrrors, The Stevenson Ranch Davidians, Triptides, New Candys, Spindrift, and more, in addition to performing at numerous concert festivals. The band's music is distinguished by its unadulterated energy, deeply felt vocals, and explosive guitar riffs. The Kundalini Genie develops a distinctive sound that is both retro and modern by drawing inspiration from psychedelic and classic rock music.

With live shows involving eclectic displays of voodoo mojo and sound that ripples through the

audience like a sonic tranquilizer, to date the band has performed in support of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Warlocks, The Underground Youth,  in addition to participation in numerous festivals. The Kundalini Genie's music is both thought-provoking and engrossing, with a concentration on lyrics that explore topics of spirituality and contemplation.

Their skill as musicians and songwriters is evident in their ability to communicate complicated emotions through their music. Every note they play and every word they sing exhibit the band's

dedication to their craft, making them essential listening for fans of rock music. The Kundalini Genie is a band that should not be missed overall. They distinguish themselves from their peers in the indie rock industry with their distinctive sound and moving lyrics, and their love for what they do is evident in every song they write. The Kundalini Genie is a band that is sure to please, regardless of whether you enjoy classic rock, psychedelic music, or just fantastic music in general.

2.  THE KUNDALINI GENIE - YOU ARE THE RESURRECTION 2018

Robbie Wilson said:
I had folk around me at the time who weren't up to the task of being involved in music as seriously as I

was.
So I ended up briefly alienated with no band, which turned out to be the best thing because I made this entire album myself. I recorded every track on my own and was contacted by a guy called Jason Shaw who wanted to mix my music, I recorded all the music and he and I went into a studio and I re-did the drums and vocals there so they could be recorded better. After that Jason took the files back to Cambodia and mixed it all, sent it to Joe Carra of Crystal Mastering and then we were done.

5.  THE KUNDALINI GENIE - HALF IN, HALF OUT 2021

Today, we present the mesmerizing, psych-tinged indie rock band that hypnotically pushes with fiery

guitar cycles, shadowy bass line, muffled drum thumps, and dispassionately droning vocals. We can credit the band for being guided by their own creative radar, rebutting current tendencies on the musical landscape and shrugging outside expectations for this LP. On Half In, Half Out, The Kundalini Genie deliver solid melody, hooks and tides of effects-pedal and drive-induced beautiful chaos, while treating us to some fantastic psychedelic interplay between the band members.
