Deaf Radio: Arsenal Of Hope 2022

 

Deaf Radio is a modern rock band formed in Athens, Greece, in 2015. Their debut album, “Alarm”,

was released in 2017 to critical acclaim, as was their sophomore album, “Modern Panic” (Nov 2019). As chief proponents of hard rock and grievous genre assault, the band has been hailed as one of the most exciting alt-rock bands to emerge from Greece in recent memory. After “Alarm” garnered more than one and a half million streams online and sell-out crowds when performed live, the band’s most recent creation, “Modern Panic”, left no ear unturned with its sprawling and exhilarating style.

              

Already from the release of the first single “Astypalea” the welcome was very warm, with the song

being included in the “Tracks of the week” section of the legendary Classic Rock Magazine and airing on KEXP Seattle, USA. Yet were to come for Deaf Radio; during the first day of the full album release, all the limited edition vinyl records sold-out and, shortly after, the band achieved its biggest sold-out show in their hometown, Athens.
                                      

The band released the new single “Model Society” in June 2021, signalling a major shift in aesthetics: Reflecting on digital addiction and lack of human touch, this song combines the pure rock energy of Foals and Royal Blood, with the synths and post-disco feel of Depeche Mode and the anthemic craft of

The Killers. While the pandemic halted Deaf Radio’s plans for more tours and gigs, the quartet didn't stay idle. During 2021, the band played Exit Festival, Serbia, was invited to Europe’s biggest industry showcase, Eurosonic (ESNS) and won the HEMI Music Awards, a programme co-funded by European Union’s Creative Europe and which involved more than 200 European bands. Also, during the first lockdown, it performed online a down-tempo, "stripped-down" version of 4 of its songs, in the “Reworked session”.
                        

Hailed as one of the most exciting rock bands to emerge from Greece in recent memory and having

shared bills with the likes of The Killers, The Kills, All Them Witches in Greek and European territory (two continental tours), Deaf Radio honed the sound and feel of their music on the road, live and in-person with thousands of fans in over forty different cities.
                     

“Alarm” garnered million streams online, while the band’s second creation, “Modern Panic”, left no ear

unturned with its sprawling and exhilarating style. The lead single “Astypalea” was included in the "Tracks of the week" section of the legendary Classic Rock Magazine and aired on KEXP Seattle, USA. Currently (Autumn 2021), both albums' vinyls are sold-out (in the case of Modern Panic, during the first day of its release).
                           

Their third album "Arsenal of Hope", which has now reached our ears, aims to establish. From genuine

and proud children of Ian Curtis and Josh Homme, they have added new elements to their sound and offer them in an excellent mix, in “Arsenal of Hope”. The guitars haven't lost their bulk, the post-punk feel is obviously still here, but so are a few more well-placed touches.
                    

Beats and synths have gained enough space in the compositions, giving the album a post-disco feeling.

Ένας τραγουδιστής με εξαιρετική άρθρωση, φωνητικά και με αυτή την α λα Ian Curtis χροιά που μας θυμίζει άλλες εποχές. Η μπάντα γράφει εξαιρετικές φωνητικές μελωδίες, με την ερμηνεία του Πάνου να τις απογειώνει.
                
 

Οι Deaf Radio είναι μία τετραμελής μπάντα από την Αθήνα. Αποτελείται από τους Πάνο Γκλίνο

(φωνή, ηλεκτρική κιθάρα), Δημήτρη Σακελλαρίου (ηλεκτρική κιθάρα), Δημήτρη Γεωργόπουλο (μπάσο) και Γιώργο Διαθεσόπουλο (ντραμς). Σχηματίστηκε το 2015, αρχικά με το όνομα 12 Gafs. Μουσικά κινείται σε desert rock/stoner ύφος, με τις μουσικές της επιρροές που απλώνονται από τους Queens of The Stone Age και τους Black Sabbath μέχρι τους Nirvana και τους Pearl Jam.
                     

Ως κύριοι υποστηρικτές του hard rock και του grievous genre assault, το συγκρότημα έχει χαιρετιστεί

ως ένα από τα πιο συναρπαστικά alt-rock συγκροτήματα που αναδύθηκαν από την Ελλάδα τα τελευταία χρόνια. Αφού το "Alarm" συγκέντρωσε πάνω από ενάμισι εκατομμύριο ροές στο διαδίκτυο και ξεπούλησε πλήθη όταν εμφανίστηκε ζωντανά, η πιο πρόσφατη δημιουργία του συγκροτήματος, το "Modern Panic", δεν άφησε τα αυτιά του με το απέραντο και συναρπαστικό στυλ του.
                        

Τον Ιανουάριο του 2017 κυκλοφόρησε το ντεμπούτο άλμπουμ της, Alarm, με ηχογραφήσεις και mastering σε Βερολίνο και Λονδίνο. Περιλαμβάνει εννιά κομμάτια. Η παραγωγή του έγινε από του Νίκο Τριανταφύλλου και το Μάριο Νάρη. Είναι ένα άλμπουμ αγκαλιάστηκε από κοινό και κριτικούς

ως μία από τις καλύτερες alternative κυκλοφορίες εκείνου του έτους. Ενάμιση χρόνο αργότερα, το συγκρότημα ταξίδεψε στην Ευρώπη για το πρώτο μεγάλο του tour. Το tour περιελάμβανε σταθμούς σε Ουγγαρία, Ρουμανία, Σλοβακία, Πολωνία και Γερμανία. Το καλοκαίρι του 2019 μπήκε στο στούντιο για την ηχογράφηση του δεύτερου άλμπουμ του, με πρώτο single το κομμάτι Astypalea. Το δεύτερο άλμπουμ, με τίτλο Modern Panic, κυκλοφόρησε το Νοέμβριο του ίδιου έτους.
                   

Το τρίτο τους δισκογραφικό πόνημα “Arsenal of Hope”, το οποίο έφτασε πλέον στα αυτιά μας, έχει

σκοπό την καθιέρωση. Από γνήσια και περήφανα τέκνα του Ian Curtis και τους Josh Homme, έχουν προσθέσει νέα στοιχεία στον ήχο τους και τα προσφέρουν σε μία εξαιρετική μίξη, στο “Arsenal of Hope”. Οι κιθάρες δεν έχουν χάσει τον όγκο τους, το post-punk feeling είναι προφανώς ακόμη εδώ, όπως όμως και μερικές ακόμη κατάλληλα τοποθετημένες πινελιές.
                      

Τα beats και τα synths έχουν κερδίσει αρκετό χώρο στις συνθέσεις, προσδίδοντας στο album ένα post-

disco feeling. To rock είναι ακόμη εδώ βεβαίως, άλλο τόσο και ένα dance feeling το οποίο έχει ταιριάξει τόσο μα τόσο όμορφα στο ήχο τους. Ο frontman Πάνος Γκλίνος, που και λόγω θέσης, βγαίνει μπροστά, δίνει πολλά στη μπάντα. Ένας τραγουδιστής με εξαιρετική άρθρωση, φωνητικά και με αυτή την α λα Ian Curtis χροιά που μας θυμίζει άλλες εποχές. Η μπάντα γράφει εξαιρετικές φωνητικές μελωδίες, με την ερμηνεία του Πάνου να τις απογειώνει.
                            

This album is one of the best Rock albums made in Greece in 2022 and is a Mastepiece!!! An absolute Must!!!
