The Dovers: We're Not Just Anybody 1966 (The Complete Singles Collection) 2024

The Dovers were an American garage rock band of the mid-1960s. The Dovers were an example of

mid-1960s folk rock, psychedelic rock and pop, heavily influenced by the British Invasion and American groups such as The Byrds.
The Dovers were from Santa Barbara, California, and started their band under the name The Vandells. They began their recording career as The Dovers in 1965 with the Miramar Records release "She's Gone"/"What Am I Going To Do?," which reportedly was a minor hit in the Santa Barbara–Ventura County area.

Three singles followed in late 1965 and early 1966, showing The Dovers' interest in folk and pop; none of

their four singles met with national success, and The Dovers broke up shortly afterward. The Dovers went largely unnoticed by music collectors until garage rock compilation albums were released in the late 1970s and early 1980s. A cult following developed around the group, who became known among collectors for their catchy songs and wistful vocals.

"What Am I Going To Do" is available on Rhino Records' Nuggets box set. "She's Gone" is given on

Pebbles, Volume 2, while "She's Not Just Anybody" is available on Pebbles 8, Southern California 1. The group's last sessions were in May of 1966. Original bassist Robbie Laudewig died in the late '80s. In 2001, the Misty Lane label released a complete collection of the group's material.

Fotheringay: Nothing More (The Collected Fotheringay) 2015

Fotheringay was a short-lived British folk rock group, formed in 1970 by singer-songwriter and musician Sandy Denny on her departure from Fairport Convention. The band drew its name from her 1968 composition "Fotheringay" about Fotheringhay Castle, in which Mary, Queen of Scots

had been imprisoned.
The song originally appeared on the 1969 Fairport Convention album, What We Did on Our Holidays, Denny's first album with that group. The original Fotheringay released one self-titled album but disbanded at the start of 1971 as Denny embarked on a solo career. Forty-five years later, a new version of the band re-formed featuring the three original surviving members together with other musicians, and toured in 2015 and 2016.

When Sandy Denny departed Fairport Convention, insisting that she wanted to concentrate upon her own songwriting rather than pursue the band's exploration of traditional English music, she

never meant she also intended abandoning the folk idiom itself.
Although all but two of the songs on this, her first post-Fairport project, are indeed original compositions, it is readily apparent that, like former bandmate Richard Thompson, her greatest talents lay distinctly within the same traditions as the poets and balladeers of earlier centuries, while the fact that fully one-half of Fotheringay itself would eventually join Fairport illustrates the care that went into the band's formation.

Two former members of Eclection, guitarist Trevor Lucas and drummer Gerry Conway, and two former members of Poet and the One Man Band, Jerry Donahue (guitar) and Pat Donaldson (bass), completed the line-up responsible for what was intended to be the quintet's first album. This folk-

based set included several Denny original compositions, notably "Nothing More", "The Sea" and "The Pond and The Stream", as well as versions of Gordon Lightfoot's "The Way I Feel" (#71 Canada) and Bob Dylan's "Too Much of Nothing". Though during the year of its original release the album featured in two of the UK's music papers' Top 20s (Melody Maker and NME), it did not meet commercial expectations, and pressures on Denny to undertake a solo career increased. She had been voted Britain's number 1 singer for two consecutive years in Melody Maker's readers poll. The album peaked at No. 18 in the UK Albums Chart.

Fotheringay disbanded in January 1971 during sessions for a projected second album.
The album remained unfinished after Denny announced that she was leaving the group and producer Joe Boyd left to

take up a job at Warner Brothers in California. Denny would later blame Boyd's hostility towards the group for its demise.  While Fotheringay's work proved to be interesting and beguiling, the band nevertheless broke up, with Denny going on to launch a solo career. She also sang in duet with Robert Plant on Led Zeppelin's "Battle of Evermore," becoming the only guest vocalist to perform on any of the band's albums.

Klaus Nomi: Klaus Nomi 1981 + Simple Man 1982

Klaus Sperber (January 24, 1944 – August 6, 1983), known professionally as Klaus Nomi, was a German countertenor and baritone noted for his wide vocal range and an unusual, otherworldly

stage persona. He was born Klaus Sperber in Immenstadt, Bavaria, Germany in 1944,
but moved to New York in the mid-'70s, working as a pastry chef and nightclub singer. One of his sets impressed David Bowie, and Nomi soon found himself backing the star on Saturday Night Live. He was ne of the first prominent persons to die of AIDS, Klaus Nomi mixed rock and disco stylings with a classical and operatic repertoire.

In the 1970s, Nomi immersed himself in the East Village art scene. He was known for his bizarre and visionary theatrical live performances, heavy make-up, unusual costumes, and a highly stylized

signature hairdo that flaunted a receding hairline.
His songs were equally unusual, ranging from synthesizer-laden interpretations of classical opera to post-punk covers of 1960s pop standards like Chubby Checker's "The Twist" and Lou Christie's "Lightnin' Strikes". In October 1978, he took the artistic name "NOMI", initially as a mononym before rendering it as "Nomi" and adopting it as a last name. It stood as an anagram for "omni" ("all" or "every"), after the then-newly released science fiction magazine Omni.

In 1977, Nomi appeared in a satirical camp production of Richard Wagner's Das Rheingold at Charles Ludlam's Ridiculous Theater Company as the Rheinmaidens and the Wood Bird. He began touring Europe and the U.S. as a cabaret act and signed to RCA in 1980. At the New Wave Vaudeville show Nomi met

Kristian Hoffman, a songwriter for the Mumps. Anya Phillips, then manager of James Chance and the Contortions, suggested Nomi and Hoffman form a band. Hoffman became Nomi's de facto musical director, assembling a band that included Page Wood from another New Wave vaudeville act, Come On, and Joe Katz, who was concurrently in The Student Teachers, the Accidents, and The Mumps. His first single was a cover of Elvis Presley's "Can't Help Falling in Love," and his 1982 debut album included compositions from Chubby Checker alongside Charles Camille Saint-Saëns.

Nomi played a supporting role as a Nazi official in Anders Grafstrom's 1980 underground film The Long Island Four. The 1981 rock documentary film Urgh! A Music War features Nomi's live

performance of "Total Eclipse".
His performance of "Mon cœur s'ouvre à ta voix" was used for the closing credits. In the liner notes of Nomi's 1981 self-titled record, 666 Fifth Avenue was listed as the contact address. He released his second album, Simple Man, in November 1982. He also collaborated with producer Man Parrish, appearing on Parrish's 1982 album Man Parrish as a backup vocalist on the track "Six Simple Synthesizers".

In the last several months of his life, Nomi changed his focus to operatic pieces and adopted a Baroque era operatic outfit complete with full collar as his typical onstage attire. The collar helped

cover the outbreaks of Kaposi's sarcoma on his neck, one of the numerous AIDS-related diseases
Nomi developed toward the end of his life. Nomi's body started to deteriorate rapidly in 1982. By the spring of 1983 his immune system was destroyed and he was diagnosed with AIDS. Nomi was admitted to the infectious disease ward of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. Most of Nomi's friends were afraid to visit him because no one knew how the virus spread at that point. Nomi died on August 6, 1983, as a result of complications from AIDS.

He was one of the earliest known figures from the arts community to die from the illness. Nomi's close

friend Joey Arias was executor of his estate. Nomi's ashes were scattered in New York City. Filmmaker Andrew Horn and writer Jim Fouratt consider Nomi an important part of the 1980s East Village scene, which was a hotbed of development for punk rock music, the visual arts, and the avant-garde. Although Nomi's work had not yet met with national commercial success at the time of his death, he garnered a cult following, mainly in New York and in France.

Various: New Wave Angels

This is not a compilation made by a record label. This sampler is made by Kostas of Urban Aspirines and

it's not available in the music stores.
I tried to do my best and I spended many many hours and days of hard work. If you like it, you can download it, but don't send me stupid comments as: "you didn't put this band or, you forgot this other band". More than 100 names are included in these 4 Compilations. This is "The Santa Aspirines" gift for the new year. My best wishes for Happy New Year 2026.

New wave is a music genre that encompasses pop-oriented styles that emerged in the mid- to late 1970s as a lighter and more melodic "broadening of punk culture". The term new wave initially held distinct

regional differences between the United States and United Kingdom. In the US, "new wave" had originally been used by music critics to label New York punk bands during the early-to mid 1970s. The term was later adopted by Sire Records founder Seymour Stein, who launched the "Don't Call It Punk" campaign in October 1977 to replace "punk" with "new wave". In the UK, new wave was less rooted in punk and had a more diverse definition. Over time, the genre became a catch-all for several musical styles that emerged after the initial popularity of punk rock, such as synth-pop, alternative dance and post-punk.
