Garbage: Garbage 1995 - Deluxe Edition 20th Anniversary 2015

American alternative mainstays Garbage merge edgy rock with electronic, beat-driven production,

cementing a sound that have made them a distinct force since their early '90s debut. Headed by iconic frontwoman Shirley Manson, the quartet built upon the sonic landscapes of My Bloody Valentine, Curve, and Sonic Youth, adding a clear sense of accessible pop songcraft that would help push them beyond cult fandom into the international sphere through multi-platinum releases Garbage (1995) and the Grammy-nominated Version 2.0 (1998).

Garbage is an American rock band formed in 1993 in Madison, Wisconsin. The band's line-up

consisting of Scottish musician Shirley Manson (vocals) and American musicians Duke Erikson (guitar, bass, keyboards), Steve Marker (guitar, keyboards), and Butch Vig (drums, percussion) has remained unchanged since its inception. All four members are involved in songwriting and production. Garbage was the brainchild of producers Butch Vig, Duke Erikson, and Steve Marker.

According to Vig, the team drew inspiration for its name from a hostile early comment, when a

friend of the band heard recording material said, "This shit sounds like garbage!"
However, according to This Is The Noise That Keeps Me Awake, an autobiography of the band, Vig wrote in his 1993 studio journal about the creative process; of working for long periods of time, "without coming up with anything cool... and when you least expect it, it all falls into place." The name derives from the last line of this entry: "I hope that all this garbage will become something beautiful!".

After a brief stylistic shift on the pop-influenced Beautiful Garbage in 2001, the band hit a chart peak with 2005's no-frills Bleed Like Me. Despite an extended hiatus that threatened to end the band, they

returned in the 2010s, settling into established veteran roles with the self-released, rock-focused efforts Not Your Kind of People (2012) and Strange Little Birds (2016). They entered the 2020s with their politically-charged sets, No Gods No Masters (2021) and Let All That We Imagine Be The Light (2025), which opted for hope (however tempered) in the face of the global turmoil and personal upheavals experienced between albums.

  1. Thanks for the unknown GARBAGE.
I recently flipped through your blog again because i was looking for something. What a wonderful blog and how colorful. You coudn't do it better. There's a " world" of difference between you blog and the other ones. ( In the past there were a few blog that were somewhat of your quality. Unfortunately, they're been discontinued long ago - otherwise, it's sheer boredom).

  4. I've already recommended CRYSTAL SYPHON
FAMILY EVIL 1967/68. This lost S. F band is my discovery of the last 10 years. If they'd done more, they'd be in my canon of all-time favorite old bands.

    2. That's the way it is. Among mountains of shit there's rarely enough good stuff to be found.

  6. Kostas listen to both Left Banke yourself.
Maybe i'm wrong ? Erwin like they're both.
I also have a bad cd edition from 92. I imagine they sound much better on Sundazed.

    1. It's a strange thing with The Left Banke. I have 2 albums. The Left Banke (Sundazed 2011) and Walk Away Renee (Sundazed 2011). When I listen to them, sometimes I like them and sometimes I'm bored. I can't decide and the same thing happens with The Fugs (I told you that in a previous comment).

    2. Haha...yes, it's really not easy. Maybe just bring it up, a lot of people probably like it. Erwin has VERY GOOD taste, but often also very eccentric. For example:
Cromeagnon - cave rock - ESP band. He considers it one of the best. Awful for me haha...

  7. A festival on Dec. 31. 1966 w/ Left Banke, Godz, Fugs...that would have been something for Erwin. Incidentally L. Banke & Godz were very good friends.
