Titanic: Titanic 1970 + Sea Wolf 1972 + Eagle Rock 1973

Norwegian hard rock band formed in Frankfurt am Main, Germany in 1969 and active until 2014. Its members came from Norway and Great Britain. Norway is not precisely the cradle of

Progressive Rock, but a band formed in 1969 when the genre was still on diapers, a group of musicians from Oslo,
decided to form a Hard Rock band inspired in legends such as LED ZEPPELIN and DEEP PURPLE, but gave a step forward and created a unique sound that blended all this influences with this genre and a strong Psychedelic element.nd active until 2014. Its members came from Norway and Great Britain.

The group formed in Norway in 1969. Its members were Kenny Aas (organ & bass guitar) (born Kjell

Olav Aas, 1947), Kjell Asperud (percussion & vocal), John Lorck (drums), Janne Løseth (guitar & vocal) Roy Robinson (lead singer) and John Williamson (bass & guitar). Janne Løseth was the band's primary songwriter and Roy Robinson its main lyricist. In October 1971, Titanic reached Number 5 in the UK Singles Chart, with their instrumental track, "Sultana" in the style of Santana.

But their recording career had started a year before with the self titled debut. By that point TITANIC had recruited the British vocalist Roy ROBINSON, who not only gave them a more

international sound allowing the band to reach the UK and North American markets, but turned into a compositional force of the band. Their second album "Sea Wolf" is released in 1971, after this album Kenny AAS leaves the band and is replaced with Helge GRØSLIE with whom they release their definitive "Eagle Rock" in 1973 in which they present us a clearly Psyche, Heavy Prog release and a mature sound with an impressive Hammond performance and chorus in the vein of URIAH HEEP.

The band dissolved in 1979. Janne Løseth started a solo career, releasing singles including "Take Me Down" (bw. "Nobody's Man"), and "I Wished I Was a Poet" (bw. "Dancing Girl"), which featured his operatic vocal, and then became the lead singer for the French electronic band Space, best known for its

1977 album and single Magic Fly. In 1991, Løseth and Robinson reformed Titanic and recorded the album Lower the Atlantic. The album was re-released as Heart of Rock in 1993. This Titanic reunion was short lived. In 2006, Løseth reformed Titanic with three additional members: Mick Walker, Phil Wilton, and Didier Blum. Roy Robinson later joined and this quintet released the single "I'm the Law" in the same year. Their album Ashes and Diamonds was released on 20 February 2009 in Europe. A strong Hard Rock and Psyche band with evident Prog leanings that deserves to be included in Prog Archives, mainly for their early 70's releases.

01.  TITANIC - TITANIC 1970

Norwegian Titanic were a great band with great musicians. Like Tasavallan Presidentti and Wigwam from Finland,Lake from Germany and Culpeper's Orchard from Denmark, they had an English singer/lyricist.I

guess to appeal to a wider fanbase. Titanic was big at home and France and Africa supposedly. On this their first album it sounds like they made a tribute soundwise to their favorite bands without making covers. They made songs that could be totally mistaken by the bands that we may have thought they were. There are hats of to mainly Santana, Procol Harum,Beatles, Cream and Jethro Tull it seems. Even Booker T. This may sound like a turnoff, but these guys pull it off in such a style, that is very convincing and they make the playing field totally their own.

02.  TITANIC - SEA WOLF 1972

After the surprising self titled debut (surprising because Norway's Rock was practically unknown), TITANIC managed to maintain the same lineup and went for a more mature release which was named

"Sea Wolf".
This album came after the success of the Santana oriented single "Sultana" which was the B side of a less famous track named "Sing Fool Sing" that has been added to "Sea Wolf only as bonus track, a song that was well received in Spain, Holland, Germany and other European counties and allowed TITANIC to be known outside Norway.

03.  TITANIC - EAGLE ROCKK 1973

Being a Symphonic fanatic, my relation with Hard Rock (even if Prog Oriented) is a mixture of love and

distrust, mostly because I'm not too fond to the extreme loudness, but the first time I listened "Eagle Rock" by the Norwegian band TITANIC, was only able to say WOW, while rising my jaw from the floor. Their sound is a mixture of late 60's Psyche, based in frenetic but brilliant Hammond performance, Hard Rock with outstanding guitar solos and Progressive Rock with chorus a la URIAH HEEP, a structure close to DEEP PURPLE and very elaborate arrangements. After their second release "Sea Wolf", the

keyboardist Kenny Aas leaves the band and is replaced by "Helge Groslie" who obviously feels more comfortable with Progressive Rock and the Hammond than his predecessor, and incredibly has no problem taking the place of a capable musician and long term friend of the rest of the members. This band has a real sound of his own even if their style are quite reminiscent of the great hard/heavy rock bands of the era (I already pointed this out in a previous review of their work).

La Revolución de Emiliano Zapata: La Revolución de Emiliano Zapata 1971 + Hoy Tema De La Pelicula La Verdadera Vocacion De Magdalena 1972

La Revolución de Emiliano Zapata (meaning "Emiliano Zapata's Revolution" in English) is a Mexican rock band that broke sales records in Europe and Mexico with their hit song "Nasty Sex"

at the height of the counterculture era of the early 1970s. Breaking ties with their original concept as the hippie era waned worldwide by the mid-1970s, they continued actively interpreting romantic ballads with considerable success. In 2009, they returned as a rock act. The band has gone through numerous musical and lineup changes, and throughout its existence the only member that has always been in the band is its founder, Javier Martín del Campo.

In the era of psychedelic rock and under the influence of American hippies of the late 1960s, a Mexican

multidisciplinary counterculture movement called La Onda was born. Headed by Javier Martin del Campo, a band was formed in Guadalajara with the intention of interpreting contemporary popular songs of the era in their own style. Initially, their hobby led them to play at local parties, but the resulting fame soon spread beyond their city.

They adopted their name after Emiliano Zapata's slogan of "Tierra y Libertad" (Land and Liberty)

as a protest to the establishment by using national symbols.
The group won the most call-in votes during a contest organized by a local radio station called "Radio ondas de la alegria" (Waves of Happiness Radio), and earned themselves an audition with an important record label.

Although initially reluctant, they signed a contract with Polydor Records, launching their brief but successful foray into the world of rock music. With an original musical concept and creative sense, the

group moved to Mexico City,[7] continuing to adapt their urban rhythms and establish a base for their new musical launches. In 1970, they released their first record, containing songs "Nasty Sex", "Shit City" and "Still don't (Not yet)", which quickly shot up the popular charts both locally and worldwide.[8] The head office of Polydor Records sent the group five medals as recognition for their high level of sales in the Americas, United Kingdom, and Europe of their one big hit, "Nasty Sex".

LA REVOLUTION DE EMILIANO ZAPATA 1971

An interesting curiosity, beginning with the name and origin of the group. It's silly to call this Latin Rock in anyway only because the group is from Mexico. The singing is in English (albeit a little rough), and the

music is completely (at times fuzzed out) psychedelic garage rock. It can be totally tasty too if the songs themselves were a little more sophisticated and thought out. Either way the allure is in the dirty, raw recorded approach. The songs are simple garage rock, but when those wonderful guitar solos of the time take off, it's electric. It's genuine and fresh. There was so much good music being made in the early 70's that jems like this were overlooked, and didn't get airplay.

HOY - TEMA DE LA PELICULA LA VERDADERA VOCATION DE MAGDALENA

Impressive hard psych with some fantastic guitar work that could compete with US and European

counterparts.
With only one song in Spanish, the lyrics are few but not corny. The opening track is amazing with some very powerful guitar work. The next song is a bit more subdued though still awesome. The fifth track is the song with no English and is probably the weakest track. The closing ten minute track closes the album out well with some great instrumental parts. Highly recommended.

Jimmy Cliff: (30 July 1944 - 24 November 2025) Anthology 2003

James Chambers (30 July 1944 – 24 November 2025), known professionally as Jimmy Cliff, was a Jamaican ska, rocksteady, reggae and soul musician, multi-instrumentalist, singer and actor. He is considered one of Jamaica's most celebrated musicians, and has been credited with helping to popularise reggae music internationally. At the time of his death, he was the only living reggae musician to hold the Order of Merit, the highest honour that can be granted by the Jamaican government for achievements in

the arts and sciences. He was also nominated for the Grammy Awards seven times, winning twice. A shining star of reggae since the early '60s, Jimmy Cliff was one of the most powerful factors in bringing Jamaican music to worldwide popularity with both his powerful songs of peace and unity and his lead role in the 1972 film The Harder They Come. Cliff's star power in the movie might have been his most visible contribution to making the entire world aware of reggae, but his music remained his primary focus for decades afterward.

He was involved in music from childhood, and at the age of 14, he moved to Kingston and took the surname Cliff to express the heights he intended on reaching. He recorded two singles before he was introduced to producer Leslie Kong. Between 1962 and 1967, Cliff produced multiple hit ska tunes with

Kong's help, growing so popular that he was selected as one of Jamaica's representatives at the 1964 World's Fair. In 1967, he signed on with Island Records. The label initially tried to market his sounds to rock audiences, which didn't completely work, but still yielded interesting results like a reggae-fied take on "Whiter Shade of Pale." His career took off in the late 1960s. His international debut album was Hard Road to Travel, released in 1967. It received excellent reviews and included "Waterfall" (composed by Nirvana's Alex Spyropoulos and Patrick Campbell-Lyons), which became a hit in Brazil and won the International Song Festival.

He became even more popular over the next few years, with the 1969 single "Wonderful World, Beautiful People" becoming an international hit and Bob Dylan calling his 1970 anti-war tune "Vietnam" the best protest song he'd ever heard. Cliff's 1971 album Wild World scored another hit for him with a cover of Cat

Stevens' song of the same name. In August of that year, Cliff's producer, mentor, and friend Kong died unexpectedly of a heart attack. One of the last projects Kong had undertaken was overseeing the soundtrack to the movie The Harder They Come. Around the same time, Bob Marley was also making waves around the world, and Cliff's music began reaching new audiences who were understanding reggae for the first time.

Throughout the '70s, Cliff released new music steadily, though he walked a nonlinear path with multiple label switches and a short-lived retirement from music in the late '70s that involved a conversion to Islam and travel to Africa in search of his spiritual roots. He still managed to release multiple albums a year

most years throughout the decade, with highlights like 1973's Struggling Man and 1975's Follow My Mind seeing respectable success across international markets. In 1975, The Harder They Come was released in the U.S., enhancing Cliff's hold on the States and necessitating a live album to capitalize on his newfound fame. The Rolling Stones' producer Andrew Loog Oldham was brought in to oversee the project, 1976's In Concert: The Best of Jimmy Cliff. The remainder of the '70s and the entirety of the '80s were active times for Cliff.

Amid constant touring, he released new albums almost annually, with 1983's The Power and the Glory inaugurating an ongoing partnership with Kool & the Gang, and 1985's Cliff Hanger taking home that

year's Grammy for Best Reggae Recording. A comeback album of sorts, Black Magic, which featured duets with high-profile stars like Sting, Joe Strummer, and others, appeared in 2004. Cliff was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009, cementing his importance in the music industry and his impact on the arts. In 2012, he partnered with Rancid frontman Tim Armstrong for Rebirth, a nostalgic return to form. Cliff teamed with Wyclef Jean in 2022 for the album Refugees.

Cliff is considered one of Jamaica’s most celebrated musicians, and is credited with helping to popularise reggae music internationally. He has been described as, for a brief period, rivaling Bob Marley as the most prominent musician in the genre. Writing for The Guardian, David Katz called him an "itinerant

ambassador who introduced the music and culture of his island to audiences across the globe", and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's website described him as "reggae's first champion". On 24 November 2025, Cliff's wife announced that he had died earlier that day from pneumonia. He had been hospitalised following a seizure. Cliff was 81. Prime Minister Andrew Holness, in a public statement after his death, said that Cliff's music "lifted people through hard times, inspired generations, and helped to shape the global respect that Jamaica enjoys today."

VIETNAM  LYRICS

Hey, Vietnam, Vietnam, Vietnam, Vietnam
Vietnam, Vietnam, Vietnam

Yesterday I got a letter from my friend
Fighting in Vietnam
And this is what he had to say
'Tell all my friends that I'll be coming home soon
My time it'll be up some time in June
Don't forget, he said to tell my sweet Mary
Her golden lips as sweet as cherries

And it came from
Vietnam, Vietnam, Vietnam, Vietnam
Vietnam, Vietnam, Vietnam

It was just the next day his mother got a telegram
It was addressed from Vietnam
Now mistress Brown, she lives in the USA
And this is what she wrote and said
Don't be alarmed, she told me the telegram said
But mistress Brown your son is dead

And it came from
Vietnam, Vietnam, Vietnam, Vietnam
Vietnam, Vietnam, Vietnam
Somebody please stop that war now

It was just the next day his mother got a telegram
It was addressed from Vietnam
Now mistress Brown, she lives in the USA
And this is what she wrote and said
Don't be alarmed, she told me the telegram said
Oh, but mistress Brown your son is dead

And it came from
Vietnam, Vietnam, Vietnam, Vietnam
Vietnam, Vietnam, Vietnam
Somebody please stop it

Vietnam, Vietnam, Vietnam, Vietnam
Vietnam, Vietnam, Vietnam
What I'm saying now somebody stop that war
