The Chesterfield Kings are a rock band from Rochester, New York, who began as a retro-1960s garage

band, and who have heavily mined the underside of 1960s music, including some spot-on borrowings from the 1960s Rolling Stones. Core members are former Distorted Level singer, underground music journalist and Andy Babiuk (16 years old at the time of the band's founding); others have come and gone. The band, named after a defunct brand of unfiltered cigarette, was instrumental in sparking the 1980s garage band revival.
                    

The Chesterfield Kings led the psychadelic revival of the early 1980s that bands like Distorted Level

had pioneered in the late Seventies with weird ditties like Her Mister (1978). Formed in 1979 in Rochester, NY by former Distorted Level singer, underground music journalist and avid record collector Greg Prevost with enfant prodige Andy Babiuk and keyboardist Orest Guran the Chesterfield Kings offered an oleographic and overly nostalgic view of psychadelia.
                      

Not only did their repertory consist entirely of obscure covers, but the band also aimed at duplicating

the look and feel of the garage-punk bands of the Sixties. Here Are (Bomp, 1982) was the album that contributed to starting the psychedelic revival of the 1980s. The group, so unlike any other underground sensations of the period, arguably kickstarted the entire '80s garage rock revival, which flourished in small circles until the end of the decade.
                        

After releasing two scene-defining LPs, Here Are the Chesterfield Kings and Stop!, the combo changed

its lineup and sound. With only singer Greg Prevost and bassist Andy Babiuk remaining from the Kings' 1979 incarnation, the band rescinded its promise never to sound like anything from rock's post-1966 history, and began to generate a '70s Rolling Stones/Flamin' Groovies hard rock image and sheen, which culminated in its 1994 LP, Let's Go Get Stoned, a sendup/tribute of post-Aftermath Rolling Stones.
               

Still, the Kings have never drifted too far from their garage band roots, and the group's subsequent

albums, which include Don't Open Til Doomsday (1997), Where the Action Is (1999), The Mindbending Sounds of the Chesterfield Kings (2003), and Psychedelic Sunrise (2007), have all been cut from the same fabric.

Like most early-'60s rock records, Here Are... is a collection made up entirely of R&B and rock & roll

covers (mostly obscure here), but this album was released in 1983. Avoiding campy thematic retreats, The Chesterfield Kings will impress you with both their intense musical knowledge and their evasion of revivalism. The sound quality, like their early-'60s antecedents, is horribly monaural, but The Chesterfield Kings wanted that dirty, 1960s two-track atmosphere on this album. This is a record that both mimics and honors the time-lost tradition of abrasive and abrupt, underproduced rock & roll.

Stop! continues in The Chesterfield Kings' fantastic survey of all things '60s, This is the album where

the band began to perform mostly originals, which are both more pop-oriented than the covers on the first Kings full-length and of higher musical quality, as the band progressed past the murkiness of '60s garage sloppiness. In all, Stop! is the best Chesterfield Kings album to date.

Night Of The Living Eyes (Mirror, 1989) collects rarities and live tracks.

An all-covers collection of early 45s and unreleased material makes the A-side of this record the definitive sound-history of pre-1984 Chesterfield Kings. The style of these songs, particularly the band's first 1979 single "I Ain't No Miracle Worker," is even more stripped down than their debut album, and though the music had already progressed to an astute level of playing, singer Greg Provost sounds like he's still trying to develop. The B-side is a live recording from a 1983 concert and, despite its relatively poor sound quality, is a raucous and fleeting example of things to come.

THE CHESTERFIELD KINGS - THE MINDBENDING SOUBDS OF... 2003

                 

These guys have been cranking out unhinged garage music since the early ’80s, except for a brief flirtation with a more ’70s hard rock sound in the early ’90s. After bouncing back with a surf album (!) and then the fantastic Where The Action Is album in 1999, they regained their status as true garage kings. This new album is the first Kings album to feature all original material, and is also their most

psychedelic release yet. We’re not talking hippie-dippy jammed-out crap, either. This is fuzzed-out, manic, and often demented sounding acid-punk. “I Don’t Understand,” previously released in a slightly different version as a 7″ single, kicks things off and features pal Little Steven on guitar, organ and production. Former Jefferson Airplane guitarist Jorma Kaukonen also adds some guitar to a couple of songs, “Mystery Trip” and “Death Is the Only Real Thing,” the latter of which sounds like a lost track from the Rolling Stones’ Between the Buttons LP. The rest is all played by the four Kings, utilizing tons of vintage guitars, pedals, keyboards, Theremin, Clavioline, Mandolin, Violin, Viola, Sitar, various percussive instruments and much more.

Eek A Mouse: Eek - Ology Reggae Anthology 2013

Ludicrous, bizarre, and uniquely original, few DJs have made such a splash in the dancehall scene than

Eek-A-Mouse. An artist who in any other country would have been a one-hit wonder, in Jamaica became a household name having invented a whole new vocal style, sing-jay, flooding the airwaves with his catch phrases and going on to become a respected toaster. Eek-A-Mouse didn't start out as a novelty act. He was born Ripton Hilton in 1957 in Kingston, Jamaica, and his first foray into the music world was as a cultural roots singer.
               

Eek-A-Mouse (born Ripton Joseph Hylton, 19 November 1957) is a Jamaican reggae musician. He is

one of the earliest artists to be described as a "singjay". Eek-A-Mouse is well known for pioneering his own style of scatting, differing from the-then toasting deejays in the 80s.
While barely out of his teens and still in college, Hilton released two singles in the mid-'70s, "My Father's Land" and "Creation," to an apathetic public.
                     

Not discouraged, the young man continued plugging away, DJing for a variety of sound systems while

also releasing occasional singles, all under his real name. To his friends, however, he was known as Eek-A-Mouse. A rather cruel jab, for that was the name of the losing racehorse Hilton kept throwing his money away on; of course as so often happens, the one time he declined to bet was the sole time the obstreperous equine won. The name stuck and by 1979, the singer decided a change was in order, and placed his musical fortune on this new moniker.
                        

By the end of 1980, he had linked up with producer Henry "Junjo" Lawes, with whom he had big hits in 1981 with the likes of "Virgin Girl" and a recut "Wa-Do-Dem". In 1981, he was the star of the Reggae Sunsplash Festival, cheering audiences still mourning over the death of reggae icon Bob Marley. His

association with Lawes led to a string of successful singles and albums, and in 1982 his hits included "Wild Like a Tiger", "For Hire and Removal", "Do You Remember", and "Ganja Smuggling". The same year he released his second album, Wa Do Dem. The "Operation Eradication" single showed Hylton's serious side, the song inspired by the vigilante killing of close friend and fellow DJ Errol Shorter. Skidip was released before the year was out.
                  

Eek guests on Roger Kellaway's 1984 release Creation, contributing his voice to the title track. He was also featured on nu metal group P.O.D.'s album Satellite, lending his vocals to the rock-reggae track

"Ridiculous." He can also be heard on OPM's album, ForThemAsses, on the track "Perfect Day." Eek-A-Mouse recorded a song with hip-hop recording artist Ditch, called "Smoke it up" (2007, released in 2009), which is featured on Ditch's CD Public Intoxication. The song by Ditch and Eek-a-Mouse is featured on the Jack Herer documentary as well. Has as well teamed up with Bounty Killer and Damian Marley in "Khaki Suit".

Psychedelic Porn Crumpets: High Visceral (Part One) 2016 + (Part Two) 2017

Psychedelic Porn Crumpets is an Australian psychedelic rock band formed in 2014 in Perth. The

band are made up of English guitarist and singer Jack McEwan, guitarist Luke Parish, drummer Danny Caddy, bassist Wayan Billondana, and keyboardist Chris Young, who began playing together in "an old horse barn in Leederville".
                      

Their genre and sound has been compared to that of other popular psychedelic rock bands in Australia,

such as King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard and Tame Impala. They have self-described their sound as "an energetic mess of colour and tone".[4] Concerning the reasoning behind the name of the band, its members have given little explanation. The band claims it was chosen at random because they thought it was amusing.
                 

A mix of sprawling, exploratory psych-pop, prog-rock, and heavy garage riffs, Australia's Psychedelic

Porn Crumpets rose out of Perth's indie underground, earning a devoted fan base through hard touring and releases like 2016's High Visceral, Pt. 1 and 2019's more muscular And Now for the Whatchamacallit. The group's ARIA-nominated fourth album, Shyga! The Sunlight Mound, appeared in 2021, followed quickly by Night Gnomes a year later.
                 

The bandmates were friends prior to the creation of the band. It has been suggested that they became

acquainted through their mutual drug dealer. The band began initially as a university project for a unit that Jack McEwan was taking at the time. The band went on in 2017 to create their own record label, What Reality? Records. They have made clear that they chose to do this for reasons of "getting stuck into existence, taking a risk, pursuing ideas, setting goals and trying to dream big." The first release on this new label was a twin reissue of both parts of their High Visceral albums.
                 

They develope musical conversations that were honed into 2016's High Visceral, Pt. 1. A sequel, High

Visceral, Pt. 2, appeared a year later and doubled down on the group's fusion of bluesy riffs and experimental yet melodic guitar rock. With their profile increased thanks to international touring, the Crumpets took a harder-edged approach on their 2019 outing, And Now for the Whatchamacallit, an album that also featured some of their most intricately structured psych-pop to date.
                    

After logging another major Australian tour, the band focused their studio efforts to create 2021's

similarly inventive Shyga! The Sunlight Mound, which earned an ARIA Award nomination for Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album. Heralded by the explosive Black Sabbath-like riffs of lead single "Lava Lamp Pisco," the prolific Crumpets offered up their fifth album, Night Gnomes, in April 2022.

JACK MCEWAN    
Jack McEwan is the band's vocalist, main songwriter, and the member credited with being the main

pioneer behind the band. He was born in 1993. Upon the release of the band's own record label, What Reality? Records, Jack told press that its creation was "only a matter of time". McEwan grew up in England, where his passion for music was kindled both by his father and through playing in bands from the age of nine onwards. His family migrated to Australia when he was thirteen. He also has a degree in graphic design, which he uses in creating the band's artwork.

LUKE PARISH   
Luke Parish is the lead guitarist for the band. He has been quoted stating that the biggest influence on the guitar playing was David Gilmour of Pink Floyd.
              

DANNY CADDY    
Danny Caddy is the band's drummer. He and Jack McEwan played in a band prior to the formation of the Psychedelic Porn Crumpets.
                   

LUKE REYNOLDS    
Luke Reynolds was the band's bass player.

Chris Young plays the guitar/keyboard for the band in the songs that require the instrument.
                  

PETER COYNE    
Peter Coyne is the band's back-up drummer. He used to be lead but after a wrist injury during his NRL season with the St. George Illawarra Dragons, he was placed into back-up.
