Gravitysays_i was created in March 2003 by Manos Paterakis and Nikos Retsos in Piraeus.
Their maiden appearance on the discography, entitled "The Roughest Sea" (2007), was released by
Sirios, the company founded by Manos Hadjidakis. It consists of nine pieces inspired by the selfishness, vanity, and isolation of modern man. It is a continuous flow concept album, where the electronic element meets the traditional instruments, while the minimalist forms follow the general pop-rock mood.
2011 was followed by "The Figures Of Enormous Gray And The Patterns Of Fraud" (Restless Wind)
which changes topics, re-examining social values, institutions and ethics as an extension of individual and collective consciousness. Their sound, electrified, at the same time follows more traditional / Mediterranean sounds, while, at the same time, the dark, atmospheric elements become even more intense.
Simultaneously, with the release of their second album, Gravitysays_i transgresses from a studio project
to a live performance group, bringing to life its compositions with the help of additional musicians.
Last but not least, Gravitysays_i perform, for their first time in their history, a series of 4 consecutive
concerts in March 2011, at the Screening Room of NIXON, a venue at the center of Athens. There performances also include rich visual material projections.
In 2016, after a period of abstinence from the concert venues, they return to present live their new work
"Quantum Unknown" which will be released within the year by Inner Ear. This time, thematically, Gravitysays_i play with the shape of every scientist, in an attempt to liberate themselves from the human gaze. Musically, the experimental and electronic element replaces the electrified outbursts of their previous work.
To 2011 ακολούθησε το «The Figures Of Enormous Grey And The Patterns Of Fraud» (Restless Wind)
Δεύτερος δίσκος το 2011 ("The Figures Of Enormous Grey And The Patterns Of Fraud") που έτυχε μια ευρείας αποδοχής και μιας πολύ καλής υποδοχής από τον Τύπο, εγχώριο και μη...
Σε πόσα αντίτυπα κυκλοφόρησε ο πρώτος δίσκος;

THE FIGURES OF ENORMOUS GREY AND THE PATTERNS OF FRAUD 2011
[It's hard not to stare in open-mouthed amazement at the sheer brilliance of Gravitysays_i's superbly executed, intensely creative and nearly flawless sophomore album, The Figures Of
Enormous Grey And The Patterns Of Fraud. They bring together experimental, dark, atmospheric elements along with Greek and Eastern traditional music and examine social values, institutions and morality as an extension of individual, as well as collective, conscience with an emotional clarity and narrative acuity that makes it an undeniable triumph.
(THE GUARDIAN )]
Their new album entitled “The Figures of Enormous Grey and The Patterns of Fraud” (Restless Wind, 2011) is different, with regard to its theme, as it reexamines social values, institutions and morality as an extension of individual, as well as collective conscience. This time, their sound follows a more traditional / Mediterranean audio vocabulary, while, at the same time, the dark, atmospheric elements become even more apparent.
Gravity Says_I are from those bands where you can't characterize their sound according to an existing kind of music. They produce a music result which is very easy to distinguish a group of disparate sounds resulting from the performance of many different organs but played with such a deft &
elegant way, which results in a unique combination, dressed with full & deep emotions!
One of these bands where you don't want their records for just to collect music but makes you want to listen again what they have "play" in order to define how deep is the feeling you have from the first listening!
Listen "The Figures Of Enormous Grey and the Patterns of Fraud" and you will understand all the above as soon as the first sounds come out of this album!
This is realy an amazing album of an awesome band!!!

The Figures Of Enormous Grey PART ONE.
A1. The patterns of fraud
Let-down with all the virtues of the majority
The casualties of greed
And those who have no integrity to show
Terrified men are crushing each other
Breeding
Quite awful needs for quite awful Power
Uncertain truth
The cross I bear
And your point of view
Considered all,
We are
Misguided souls in the patterns of fraud
And I can’t withdraw my self from the battles I’m into…
Brutal the fact
As brutal the culture
A2. The unshakeable alibi
Behold!
The King of all
Embrace
The Pattern, the unbearable
Trading on
The fear, we share, of dying
And everyone glorifies the Holy Word
Delivered by Unholy Minds
Little by little grew the fraud of The Ages
What is hovering above?
The obedience will be treated like royalty
And
The royalty shall be rewarded with eternity…
A3. Delusions of grandeur
A4. The “All things decay” nebula
The dreaming came out of nowhere…
Craving
Merging by deliberating
A5. The finger of blame
Unwritten law
The mud we’re all in
The fraud of institution
- A slavery of Ego
How would you call the “Modern Man”?
Who’s intrigued with his own icon
And the tendency of modern living
I call him coward
Who’s settled down in his unawareness
Are the infants fated to follow?
PART TWO.
B1. The urge of identity
Where do the figures of enormous grey fit in?
In which frame?
Which landscape?
Is it the light that refuses to deign them?
B2. The figures of enormous grey
If it were in my power
Yearning to gratify
She’d gain her freedom
And he would arrive in time
Drowned in the grief
Of our unfulfilled dream
Grey turned our figure
Loose turned our belief
B3.The paradox of youth
B4. The farewell letters
I’m tired
Of all your tricks
The cannibals you breed
Are heading my home
Oh You! Dreadful Monster
I can’t change the World
Although
I wish I could just rip your heart off
Farewell, You Triumphant One!
Cause I don’t have to put up with
The panic and the horror
And your majestic cruelty
In the battles of acceptance
I don’t preach…
But all we know is what we have been told
- A false tradition?
Misguided…
Our degenerated race will get what it deserves
- A Great Downfall?
Cause nothing shall ever come back
The years
The beloved ones
- Who all had died like martyrs in the patterns of fraud
The World
The Stars
And everything between us
Let us be forgotten
Let us rest in peace
We were the figures of enormous grey
And we should never have been
Unusual and fine band from Greece. With a lot of melancholy that i love. It always surprise me that there are so many good bands in your little Greece. Austria could take this as an example.
ReplyDeleteThank you !
Just a great experimental band !!!
DeleteI think that the answer is very simple. We are too many excellent Musicians here in Greece and we adore all what we do in the Indie Rock scene.
DeleteI don't think Austria has any bad musicians. I just don't like the music they play, i hate it. Example Austropop which is very successful. Of course there are also some bands that are good, but there is no comparison to Greece in terms of the number.
DeleteEspecially in the first half of the 70's
ReplyDeletewe have really good bands:
Eela Craig, Paternoster(depressed- reminiscent of Pink Floyd), Nostradamus,
Lazarus, Novaks Kapelle and more !
Because i already mention Pink Floyd i take the opportunity.
ReplyDeleteI love the 80 minute outtakes from Zabrieskie Point. Something of beautiful and sad !!! (I hope you have the tape).
As i especially like the film music (More) from the band.
I have all Pink Floyd works. CD, DVD, Vinyls, Soundtracks, Everything. I saw them in concert 3 times in Italy and one time in Greece
DeleteWe'll i'm probably not quite as much a P. Floyd lover as you are. I particularly like certain things that aren't generally acknowledged. Up to 1970 i like them a lot too. From then
Deleteon it becones problematic and from a certain point in time it's all over from me.
I saw P. Floyd live twice in July 1971 in Ossiach(Austria) and in 1973 in Vienna.
ReplyDeleteI didn't like the last concert anymore.
1971 & 1973. Lucky you! I was just a kid. The only album I don't like is The Momentary lapse of reason, but it is always a Pink Floyd album.
ReplyDeleteYes, in July 1971 these was an interesting open air concert in front of an old castle.
DeleteBy the way, the concert was organized by Friedrich Gulda. A well known piano player, wilh idionsyncratic interpretations. I mention it because you play the piano. Maybe you know him !??
ReplyDeleteNo I don't know him
DeleteExcellent stuff. Listened to the first alum walking around the beach on a grey day. It was quite uplifting. Thanks for the tip.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you like "The Roughest Sea", but I think that the sound of the second album is completely unique.
