City And Colour: Studio Discography 2005 - 2015

Dallas Michael John Albert Green (born September 29, 1980) is a Canadian musician, singer, songwriter and record producer who records under the name City and Colour. He is also known for his contributions as a singer, rhythm guitarist, songwriter, and co-founder of the post-hardcore band Alexisonfire. In 2005,

he debuted his first full-length album, Sometimes, which achieved platinum certification in 2006. City and Colour began performing in small intimate venues between Alexisonfire tours. The name City and Colour comes from his own name: Dallas, a city, and Green, a colour. His reasoning for the name was that he felt uneasy "putting the album out under the name Dallas Green". Representing the solo work of Canadian musician Dallas Green, City and Colour emerged in the late 2000s, offering an outlet for the singer/songwriter's more introspective, acoustic work.

Already a Juno Award winner for his 2007 City and Colour debut, he threw himself into his solo work

full-time and released a string of chart-topping albums that saw him expand his sonic palette beyond the acoustic nature of his early days. Following 2015's acclaimed If I Should Go Before You, Green did a lengthy bout of touring and released a live album before returning to studio work with 2019's more ethereal Pill for Loneliness. After an Alexisonfire revival in 2022, Green turned back to solo work to help process the death of a friend on 2023's emotional The Love Still Held Me Near.

Appearing in in October 2019, City and Colour's chart-topping sixth studio full-length, Pill for Loneliness, saw him expanding his sound into lusher, more celestial territory. 2019 also saw the return of Alexisonfire

who issued several standalone singles.
At the start of the next decade, Green again found himself splitting time between band and solo work. As City and Colour, he offered up Low Songs, a two-song tribute to Minnesota indie stalwarts Low. Meanwhile, Alexisonfire issued the 2022 comeback album, Otherness, their first in 13 years. His next solo outing, 2023's cathartic The Love Still Held Me Near, saw him working through grief and loss following both the death of his best friend and the dissolution of his marriage.

01. CITY AND COLOUR - SOMETIMES 2005

Released in Canada in 2005, SOMETIMES scored a Juno Award in 2007 for Alternative Album of the

Year. Its appealing, whispery acoustic ballads bear scant relation to the scream-heavy post-hardcore played by Alexisonfire, City & Colour leader Dallas Green’s other band. This is no sudden caprice, though; Green has been playing the soft stuff since his early teens. There’s the expected heartbreak and wistfulness here, but also songwriting sophistication and true feeling (minus the vocal onanism of a Dashboard Confessional).

02. CITY AND COLOUR - BRING ME YOUR LOVE 2008

Bring Me Your Love, the second album from Dallas Green's solo project City and Colour, shows an artist

settling nicely into his new gig as an acoustic singer/songwriter. It's both warmer and more intimate than its predecessor Sometimes, but the most notable quality of Bring Me Your Love is the confidence it exudes. Green's voice is still ethereal, but it's also stronger and more self-assured throughout the album.

03. CITY AND COLOUR - LITTLE HELL 2011

On Little Hell, the third outing from City and Colour, Dallas Green laments, pines, and celebrates loves both won and lost, employing a dusky, electrified patina of old and new country with a tinge of soul that's miles (sonically) from his work with the post-hardcore outfit Alexisonfire. Equal parts Whiskeytown, the

Low Anthem, and Jeff Buckley, the album is built on a foundation of melancholy, but never falls into complete despair. Steeped in the abyss of late-night introspection, Green has the voice to carry the weight of his protagonists, whether it's a sibling's descent into darkness ("O' Sister") or the glimmer of hope amongst the ruins of past relationships ("We Found Each Other in the Dark"), and the songs' lush yet deceptively simple arrangements allow his words the room to resonate.

04. CITY AND COLOUR - THE HURRY AND THE HARM 2013

The Hurry and the Harm, the fourth studio outing from Ontario-based singer/songwriter and ex-

Alexisonfire vocalist Dallas Green, looks to the past for inspiration yet keeps its feet planted firmly in the present, retaining its predecessor's penchant for melody and melancholy, while offering up an evocative, 12-song set that skillfully blends pastoral folk, suburban blues, and rusty nail-tattered Americana.

05. CITY AND COLOUR - IF I SHOULD GO BEFORE YOU 2015

Canadian singer/songwriter Dallas Green's long-tenured solo project City and Colour finally gels as a band on their strong fifth LP, If I Should Go Before You. What began as an outlet for his quieter, folk-based material eventually took the former Alexisonfire singer away from post-hardcore altogether and

landed him atop the Canadian charts with a string of platinum records. In some ways, If I Should Go Before You is a culmination of the sturdy pop sound he's built up over the years that weaves through territories of dreamy indie folk, pastoral Americana, and soulful alt-rock. But unlike previous releases, which have relied heavily on a revolving door of session musicians, this time Green decided to stick with his touring band, developing these new songs from the ground up with trusted players who already share a bond.
