Died Pretty (sometimes The Died Pretty) was an Australian indie rock band. They formed in Sydney in early 1984 and achieved moderate success in their home country and recorded nine full-length albums before they parted ways in 2002, however the band still regularly perform reunion concerts.
At a time when Australian rock meant pub rock and every other band sounded like Cold Chisel, Died
Pretty were something of an anomaly. Influenced more by the Velvet Underground, the Stooges, and the Doors than they were by early Icehouse, Died Pretty spent most of the '80s and '90s struggling for recognition and finding it only in Europe. Diminutive singer Ron Peno channeled Iggy Pop and Jim Morrison in equal measure, whirling dangerously while on-stage.
Compiling the contents of the original Died Pretty EP and Next to Nothing, this makes a perfect introduction to the band's early days, seven songs of roots/garage-inspired rock efforts.

ReplyDeleteExcellente Aussie band.
I have almost all of them not just 4, was a short circuit. Your favorite band from Australia as far as i can remember.
ReplyDeleteYes. I saw them Live in Bologna during the 80s. Reno was completely out. Too much alcohol. He couldn't remember the lyrics of the songs. Even me was completely out. What a great concert!!!
DeleteI haven't (unfortunately) seen many Aussie bands live. Go- Beetweens 1981 and The Triffids i think 1984.
DeleteI finally got around listening The Reporters today. Can compete with the best English new wave. The only annoying thing is that it's 2×10" and therefore the constant standing up.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Aussie band: Radio Birdman
ReplyDeleteI have posted a lot of Radio Birdman.
DeleteRadio Birdman were such a great band, it's a pity they were labeled as a punk band because technically they were miles above any punk group. I saw that one of the posts is about a remastered version, I will have to listen to it.
DeleteI don't have any favorite Aussie band.
DeleteThere are too many good ones. But i want to mention TACTICS. I have 2 do-cd and a simple one. Or the first two lps from the power pop from Sunnyboys
Anonymous i have the remaster versions of Radio Birdman with 3× do-cd and a simple one. Very recommended !
ReplyDeleteFurthermore live in Sydney 1976.
