ΑΡΝΗΤΙΚΗ ΣΤΑΣΗ - ΑΘΗΝΑ - 1989

Η "Αρνητική Στάση" είναι μια από τις πιο ξεχωριστές μπάντες που έχει να επιδείξει η ελληνική d.i.y. σκηνή, με εξαιρετική κινητικότητα στο πρώτο μισό της δεκαετίας του '90, μέσα από πολλές συναυλίες, πολλές από αυτές στη "Villa Amalias", και κάποιες καταπληκτικές κυκλοφορίες. Το '90 το split lp με τους 'Αγγλους "Kismet HC" με τίτλο "Love Is Our Strongest Weapon". Τα οχτώ τραγούδια τους τα ηχογράφησαν από τις 29 Νοέμβρη ως 3 Δεκέμβρη του '90 στο "Redhouse Studio". Η σύνθεση τους σε αυτό το δίσκο ήταν Αλέξανδρος φωνή και κιθάρα, Αλέκος κιθάρα και φωνή, Μάκης μπάσο και φωνή και Βασίλης Μπαμπούρης (ex "Βιομηχανική Αυτοκτονία") τύμπανα και φωνή. Το '93 κυκλοφόρησαν το εφτάιντσο με τίτλο "Spectators Of Decadence" από την αμερικάνικη "Profane Existence", περιείχε τα κομμάτια "Πτώση" και "Υπήκοοι Της Κίρκης", τα οποία είχαν ηχογραφήσει το Δεκέμβρη του '91 στο "Redhouse Studio". Από τη μπάντα είχαν φύγει οι δυο κιθαρίστες και στο εφτάιντσο έπαιξαν δυο νέα μέλη, Σταμάτης Σπηλιωτόπουλος (ex "Εναλλακτική Λύση 3", "Πορφυρία") κιθάρα και ο Γιάννης Τζαμίλης (ex "Κοινωνικά Απόβλητα") φωνή, κιθάρα και πιάνο. Ο τελευταίος θα αποχωρήσει από το γκρουπ και οι υπόλοιποι τρεις θα ηχογραφήσουν από τον Ιανουάριο ως τον Απρίλιο του '93, εικοσιτέσσερα νέα κομμάτια στο "Praxis Studios". Δώδεκα από αυτά θα μπουν στο lp που κυκλοφόρησαν μερικούς μήνες μετά από τη Βελγική "Genet Records" και αμέσως μετά τυπώνουν άλλες χίλιες πεντακόσιες κόπιες στην "Wipe Out Records". Μετά την έκδοση αυτού του δίσκου, το συγκρότημα διαλύθηκε. Συμμετείχαν στην κασετοσυλλογή "Οδόφραγμα Θορύβου" από τη "Boredom Tapes" το '90. Το '92 στο lp "Fragmenta IV" του fanzine "Στις Σκιές Του Β-23". Το '93 στην εφτάιντση συλλογή της "Profane Existence" με τίτλο "Think Globaly Act Localy" με το κομμάτι "Το Κουτί της Πανδώρας" σε διαφορετική εκτέλεση. Κομμάτια τους μπήκαν αργότερα σε αρκετές ακόμα συλλογές.
Μετά τη διάλυσή τους ο Βασίλης έπαιξε στους "Black Static" και αργότερα ασχολήθηκε με τις μεταφράσεις, ο Τζαμίλης έπαιξε στους "New Jack" και "Sadistic Noise", ο Σπηλιωτόπουλος κι αυτός στους "New Jack", ο Μάκης στους "Ανάσα Στάχτη" και "Ανατέλλων Τρόμος" και ο Αλέξανδρος στους "I Want The Moon".

Air : Moon Safari 1998

Moon Safari is the debut studio album by French music duo Air, released in 1998.
Electronica had its fair share of chillout classics prior to the debut of Air .
Air had musical ideas that stretched beyond samplers or keyboards, and Moon Safari found those ideas wrapped up in music that was engaging, warm, and irresistible.

Air is a music duo from Versailles, France, consisting of Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoit Dunckel.

Air had certainly bought records and gear based on the artists that had influenced them, they didn't just regurgitate (or sample) them; they learned from them, digesting their lessons in a way that gave them new paths to follow.

Nicolas Godin studied architecture at the Ecole Nationale Superieure d'Architecture de Versailles, and Jean-Benoit Dunckel studied mathematics before forming a band in 1995. Before founding Air, Dunckel and Godin played together in the band Orange, with others such as Alex Gopher, Xavier Jamaux and Jean de Reydellet. The former two have subsequently contributed to remixes of tracks recorded by Air..

Air's full-length debut, Moon Safari, that proved they could also write accessible pop songs like "Sexy Boy" and "Kelly Watch the Stars." But it wasn't all pop. The opener, "La Femme d'Argent," was an otherworldly beginning, with a slinky bassline evoking Serge Gainsbourg's Histoire de Melody Nelson and a slow glide through seven minutes of growing bliss (plus a wonderful keyboard solo).

Air use many of their studio instruments (like Moog synthesizers, the Korg MS-20, Wurlitzer and Vocoder) live on stage, where their ability to improvise is more clearly highlighted. The band performs the well-known tracks from the albums live as extended or altered versions.

Air often works together, both in the studio and live on stage, with artists like Beth Hirsch (Moon Safari), Francoise Hardy ("Jeanne"), Jean-Jacques Perrey ("Cosmic Bird"), Gordon Tracks ("Playground Love" and "Easy Going Woman" - Gordon Tracks is a pseudonym of the French singer Thomas Mars from Phoenix), Beck (10 000 Hz Legend), on the 2004 tour with Dave Palmer and on the 2007 tour with drummer Earl Harvin, Vincent Taurelle and Steve Jones.

In Trance 95 are a duo from Athens,Greece. They were formed by Alex Machairas and Nik Veliotis in May 1988 and until Nik's departure in 1992 they released two singles,one 12 inch and one album,while they also appeared in a number of compilations of the time.
Their debut 7 inch,the double A Sided "Desire To Desire / Brazilia" was released in December 1988 and it is one of the few known releases of synth pop - cold wave that came from Greece in the 80's.
After a period during which Nik Veliotis left to undertake other projects Alex Machairas continued with new member George Geranios in various guises including a subtle change of name to Itenef. A full reformation took place when they were invited by ex Depeche Mode member Alan Wilder to open Recoil's Athens gig in April 2010.
But already from 2006 there was a renewed interest in the band that was generated through the increasing popularity of the minimal synth / cold wave sound in the underground circles of mainly New York and central Europe. The birth of "Minimal Wave" as a genre brought many obscure electronic artists from the 80's in the surface including In Trance 95. Many of their early tracks eventually got regular airplay at the Minimal Wave program of NY's East Village Radio and eventually in 2010,the duo signed to the New York based label.
With Minimal Wave's help, IT95 completed the album "Cities of Steel And Neon" which is a collection of their early tapes compiled and remastered by the duo themselves and the label's founder Veronica Vasicka. In March 2011, In Trance 95 presented their album in a live set before Vasicka's first appearance in Athens during a three-day event dedicated to analogue synthesizers and D.I.Y. tape recorder music of the 80's.[Wiki]

John Lee Hooker (August 22, 1917 – June 21, 2001) was a highly influential American blues singer, songwriter and guitarist. Hooker was born in Mississippi,

He was beloved worldwide as the king of the endless boogie, a genuine blues superstar whose droning, hypnotic one-chord grooves were at once both ultra-primitive and timeless. But John Lee Hooker recorded in a great many more styles than that over a career that stretched across more than half a century.

"The Hook" was a Mississippi native who became the top gent on the Detroit blues circuit in the years following World War II. 

And he just kept rolling along :the 01'Man River of the Blues was going as strong as ever in his seventies , when "Boom Boom" charted in 1992 courtesy of the sales power of global advertising .Three years earlier he'd released "The Healer", not really a comeback as , unlike
many others Bluesmen , he'd managed to dodge oblivion , but a triumphant confirmation of his stature .

Bonnie Raitt , Robert Cray and Carlos Santana were queueing up to play alongside Hooker , who'd
similary worked with Canned Heat and Van Morrison in the early 1970s . In 1989, he joined with a number of musicians, including Carlos Santana and Bonnie Raitt to record the album The Healer, for which he and Santana won a Grammy Award. Hooker recorded several songs with Van Morrison, including Never Get Out of These Blues Alive, The Healing Game, and I Cover the Waterfront. He also appeared on stage with Van Morrison several times, some of which was released on the live album A Night in San Francisco. The same year he appeared as the title character on Pete Townshend's The Iron Man: The Musical by Pete Townshend.

Though similar to the early Delta blues, his music was metrically free. John Lee Hooker could be said to embody his own genre of the blues, often incorporating the boogie-woogie piano style and a driving rhythm into his blues guitar playing and singing. His best known songs include Boogie Chillen' (1948), I'm in the Mood (1951), and Boom Boom (1962)—the first two reaching #1 on the Billboard R&B chart.

Hooker's recording career began in 1948 when his agent placed a demo, made by Hooker, with the Bihari brothers, owners of the Modern Records label. The company initially released an up-tempo number, Boogie Chillen', which became Hooker's first hit single.

His early solo songs were recorded under Bernie Besman. John Lee Hooker rarely played on a standard beat, changing tempo to fit the needs of the song. This often made it difficult to use backing musicians who were not accustomed to Hooker's musical vagaries.

Hooker fell ill just before a tour of Europe in 2001 and died in his sleep on June 21 at the age of 83, two months before his 84th birthday. He was interred at the Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland, California.[20]

His last live in the studio recording on guitar and vocal was of a song he wrote with Pete Sears called Elizebeth, featuring members of his Coast to Coast Blues Band with Sears on piano. It was recorded on January 14, 1998 at Bayview Studios in Richmond, California.

Dirty Beaches: Badlands 2011

Dirty Beaches released a number of EPs and instrumental - focused albums on cassette-only labels, before releasing the full-length Badlands in March 2011. Badlands was subsequently nominated as a long listed nominee for the 2011 Polaris Music Prize.

Dirty Beaches has also released singles including "True Blue"/"Sweet 17," "Lord Knows Best" and "Lone Runner," as well as videos, many of them directed by Zhang himself. Zhang has also recorded several original film soundtracks, such as for the documentary Water Park, by Evan Prosofsky.

Dirty Beaches' low-slung, lo-fi, post-rockabilly is the project of Alex Zhang Hungtai, who was born in Taiwan but moved to Canada at an early age. Mixing a croon worthy of Elvis or Roy Orbison with Suicide-like drum machines and a fondness for found sounds and hypnotic loops, Hungtai's music is equally familiar-sounding and surreal.

He released a slew of albums, EPs, and cassettes on labels such as Night People and Fixture Records, then moved to Zoo Records for his official debut album, Badlands, which was released in early 2011. Hungtai remained busy, issuing singles on Suicide Squeeze and a split with Xiu Xiu in 2011 and 2012, and released the Waterpark soundtrack on A Records in March 2013 and the double album Drifters/Love Is The Devil that May.

Dirty Beaches is Alex Zhang Hungtai, a Taiwan-born Canadian immigrant who spent a good chunk of his life feeling unmoored and adrift. "I don't really have a place where I can say I was born and raised," he told us last month.

"For me, home is a collage of all these fractured landscapes that I try to piece together." This sense of

displacement, combined with an ear for cinematic sounds-- particularly the eerie, stylized noir of David Lynch, Jim Jarmusch, Quentin Tarantino, and Wong Kar Wai-- fuels his work, which squeezes the sounds of early rock'n'roll and 1950s music through a lo-fi, distortion-drenched filter.

Badlands is an album by Canadian musician Dirty Beaches. It was released in March 28, 2011 by Zoo Music.

This set of influences, which extends to the minimal thrust of Suicide and the Cramps' manic rockabilly, feels unique, simply because it's been largely untouched by indie music during the past decade or so.

It was longlisted as a nominee for the 2011 Polaris Music Prize .
